Presumably: the stores want the meat producers to bear the costs of educating store customers.

Sure, grilling is a simple concept but there is so much more that goes on in a bbq that the end result can be very different depending on all sorts of factors

There's some consumer agency brouhaha here in Sweden right now - apparently stores are demanding meat producers to use a certain gas mixture when packaging the meat. Something like 80% oxygen, which makes the meat look fresh and bright red.

It also makes crap out of the meat. It's drier and tastes less, and goes bad quicker. The stores demand it entirely for aesthetic purposes, to make the meat look "real".

It's entirely the stores demanding this. Meat producers have tried telling them they're being silly buggers, but to no avail.

Maybe that changes now that it's getting widespread reporting.

Wow, giving dead flesh lots of oxygen seems like the direct opposite to what you want it to get if it's meant to hold.

oh god why does Steven Moffat sound so convincing when he's lying? I know he has to be lying buuuut...

Hmm, looking at the Wiki BBQ articles to try and figure out what I do. I guesssss I tend to do a lot of dry rubs, which is kind of a central Texas thing, though I do also tend to make it very sweet. Though the east and south saucy sweet thing is something I do too.

People around here used to get upset w/ me when I'd say I was gonna BBQ something, because I pretty much used BBQ for anything I was cooking over a fire, "No, you are just grilling. BBQ is slow and you have to have a sauce." I guess its highly variable. But I mostly use the distinction now when I'm talking, so as not to confuse the true Texans.

Are you cooking meat over an open flame outdoors? If so you're perfectly fine in saying you are BBQing because that's pretty inarguably an acceptable use of the word and has been for decades.

The people saying "No, you are just grilling" are pedantic twits who want BBQing to refer only to their special definition of it.

Think music nerds who scoff when you refer to <popular artist here> and say "No, that's not even music, man"

Today I undid all the damage I did to my MTB by wrecking a chainring while using it for commuting, then laying it up for three months still covered in road crap and salt.

It also has its proper tyres back on and the pannier rack removed, so it actually looks like it should again.

I doubt very many if any chatters are watching the snooker, but that semi-final was some amazing stuff. The prodigy child continues to the final. Felt a bit for Ding, must not be fun having the crowd against you in every tournament (That's held in the UK) because you are chinese.

Too bad I can't see the final session of Higgins/Williams, it's been a great match too.

You're not conservative - it's just there's an online contingent of misanthropists who hate 'breeders' and another contingent of hardcore totalitarian utopianists, and that thread is their terrible intersection.
