One time I had a cavity in a wisdom tooth. I hadn't felt anything wrong with it at all (as seems to be the case with my wisdom teeth) so I didn't notice anything until it was basically falling apart, at which point my usual dentist said she couldn't do anything for me, so she sent me to a specialist.
The guy gassed me up and I don't even remember the procedure. Mom took me home and I had a nap. Then I woke up and called Joseph to tell him what'd happened. And then I found out that I'd apparently called about two hours earlier to tell him the exact same story, except much more stoned at the time.
I have had a lot of problems with my teeth through my life and as a child/early teen I fucking hated going to the dentist, which is nothing new or unique so I wont dwell on the details.
I didn't go to the dentist for like 10 years after having a sucky wisdom tooth removal procedure, deciding to take super good care of my teeth instead. It worked really well, except sometimes you can't avoid problems despite how well you look after them and I ended up with a terrible absess in one of my molars. It was the most horrendous pain I have ever experienced. Toothache is unlike any other pain in that it is a constant, dazzling, pure and crystal form of pain that never goes away, ever, no matter what. It is with you through everything, ruining your weekends and your gaming sessions and all your conversations, your work life, your sleep.
I eventually had to go to the dentist after putting up with like six weeks of agony, and I had a dreaded route canal done.
Much to my suprise it was completely fine and the bliss I felt afterwards was incredible. Suddenly not having that pain any more was like fucking nirvana. I now love my dentist. She is the best.
I guess the moral of the story is, the dentist is only terrifying when you're a child. If you're an adult now and you avoid the dentist and suffer because of it. (Wo)man up and go. Your dentist can work magic.
I almost had a root canal done back in '00. But then after starting to go into the cavity, they discovered it wasn't quite deep enough to require that and I got a filling instead and that tooth hasn't had problems since.
As the enamel and dentin are destroyed, the cavity becomes more noticeable. The affected areas of the tooth change color and become soft to the touch. Once the decay passes through enamel, the dentinal tubules, which have passages to the nerve of the tooth, become exposed and causes pain in the tooth. The pain may worsen with exposure to heat, cold, or sweet foods and drinks.[1] Dental caries can also cause bad breath and foul tastes.[20] In highly progressed cases, infection can spread from the tooth to the surrounding soft tissues. Complications such as cavernous sinus thrombosis and Ludwig's angina can be life-threatening.[21][22][23]
A guy I know at work drinks almost nothing but energy drinks, and on his last trip to the dentist was told he was 6 months away from losing all his teeth. They look fine from the outside, but they were rotting away inside. He's about, 25.
Lets not forget that some studies have linked poor oral hygiene to heart disease. Teeth are not something you want to neglect, and not just because the dentist is scary and his tools are ouchy.

Now I haven't seen the studies but I'm going to guess that it is linked because people who don't take care of their bodies tend to have both. It's a matter of being a lazy fuck

Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.
Also, I have a strange urge to book an appointment with my dentist/raccoon remover.

This is what I use. And for bonus points, the cap is resting on a box of Oral-B floss.
