Alright then, Gabriel you have a choice to make, you can go to the planet now, fight a BFG battle now, and maybe go to to planet even if you lose, or go to the asteroid belt. Just remember that you might not be able to repair damage if you flee to the planet after losing. If he pursues you to the planet after winning you carry over damage.

Does Vassal have spectator mode? It may be worth it to get drunk and heckle a game in progress.

Yeah. So long as we don't lock the game to keep out spectators, anyone can pop in and watch.

So do Huntzy and I just arrange when to have our game, or is there some sort of formal process we need to go through first?

Nope just arrange a game yourselves. the only formalities are: be sure your lists are posted, and be sure to do your aftermath rolls and experience gain rolls in front of your opponent at the end of the game, if there is an aftermath step.

Ok, I'm ready. I think I'd like to be a raiding fleet for now since I don't really know how to play BFG. I use the Imperial Guard, but I think it'd probably be best to consider me traitor guard, just so I don't too badly imbalance the sides.

I'm at GMT -4, free any time really, but for the exception that I don't get back before 6 on wednesday/thursday.

OK what we are waiting on: Heffling needs to declare where he is fleeing to, and huntzy and gabe need to do their post game stuff, and figure out who is going where at least. After that , Pollo needs to deploy, and then it's a new turn. I guess before the new turn everyone needs to submit their lists, me included. I am seriously considering a 48 hour time limit on moves and a 24 hour time limit on retreats, because this waiting around is really killing the momentum.

Seriously you guys, this gets it's own post since SO MANY people have done this.

YOU GET A FREE FLEET COMMANDER, AND YOU CAN'T BUY A DIFFERENT ONE.

The leadership and number of re-rolls starts out low and gets better, that's kinda the whole part of playing a campaign. Check page 153 of the Big blue book, the campaign section, for specifics. Or refer to the special rules I made up for your race if it isn't there.

For Huntzy and my game, as we were playing Cruiser Clash, and with Huntzy's departure we're calling that a successful fleet-wide disengage, I get 135 VP for the three gladius I detonated, and 10% of the point value of the rest of his fleet (as none of them were crippled) so 272 (rounded up) VP total.

To determine renown points, VP are divided by 100, rounding up. So:

    3 renown points for VP.
1 renown point for completing my Extended Duty subplot, and not getting my ass kicked (so I was really lucky Huntzy pulled out early - he would've been in range to start hitting me with Lock On! bombardment cannons his next turn...)

Damn, look at me now, I'm so renowned I'm INfamous!

Also, correcting my list, because I was intimidated by the rulebook saying YOU MUST TAKE A CHAOS LORD! I will instead spend that 50 points on one more Infidel escort.

Elder, aside from Huntzy's move, do you need anything more from us?

You forgot +2 for winning the battle. Congrats, you just got promoted, choose a new mark of chaos.

Well it depends on if you want to pursue, I think you said you would not pursue him. So then there would be an aftermath step: roll for crew experience, repair, make appeals.

For raiding fleets, not that you know of, yet.

After thinking about this this morning, I realized that there is no reason for raiding fleets to ever be in an approach. So I am going to clarify that Raiding fleets move from planet to planet, and if they are forced to flee they will flee to the asteroid belt. Really there are just here to get some more 40k games in. So I moved Skarsol to high orbit, and Pollo gets to be in high orbit.

Hmm, I think I'm gonna have to drop out of the BFG part of this; I just don't know the rules well enough to make it fun for my opponent. So I'll just stick to the 40K side of things for now I guess.

If anyone has time to run through a BFG practice game or two though I'd greatly appreciate it, but if not it's no biggie.

    I'll throw up a 40K list tomorrow when I get a chance.

Fluff stuff (ignore if you want):
++Xeno-magus Hedrickson reporting on reported 'Tyrannic' sightings in Aestas-8 segment++
First Log: The Warpstorms guarding the secrets of the Aestas System have at last abated. Long range scans of the segment designated Aestas-8 suggested evidence of Tyrannic Bioforming in it's early stages, I was called in to investigate, until I see the evidence myself I remain skeptical of such results; Aestas-8 has been closed off from the rest of Ultima-Segmentum for far too long.

Second Log: Having arrived upon Imperial Cruiser Classified stationed close to the Aestas system I was able to view the reports myself and there can be no doubt; at some point Tyranids have claimed and had begun harvesting the planet in Aestas-8 quadrant. Activity appears to have ceased now however. How did they get there in the first place? Did they arrive before the Warpstorms and lost connection to their gestalt Hive Mind? Or was their some route through the storms which only their bestial will could navigate? There are rumours of sending research posts down to the planet and I intend to be one of them.

Third Log: I was amongst the first wave of Imperial forces down to the planet surface. Supported by a full 3 platoons of Tetrean 3rd Imperial Guard, there are even rumours of Astartes being deployed but I'm sure that is just hearsay. So far there has been no sign of Tyrannic activity, only the chitinous remains of long-dead feeder organisms overgrown with native flora.

Fourth Log: It appears that my inital reports of Tyranid activity were somewhat optimistic, there are almost certainly Tyranid elements still hunting actively on this planet. The vox is rife with details of sightings; dark shapes in woods, tunnel systems beneath the planets top-stratum. We lost contact with Marrin's base Designation: 104/TC their last message was static interjected with screams and ravings to 'watch the shadows.' The attacks so far however appear defensive and animalistic, it seems that the link to the Hive Mind has been lost at some point and whatever organisms still survive here are little more than beasts.

Fifth Log: We woke it up, we should not have been so hasty deploying here, Imperial Guard fire teams exploring the labyrinthine tunnel network found some sort of node chamber, there presence looks to have woken some sort of 'Commnder-Beast.' The men call it the 'Bloodkeener,' when it appears the Tyranids certainly stop acting like dumb brutes; it guides them and leads them, we are being out-fought and out-flanked.

Sixth Log: This is likely to be my final entry. The Bloodkeener is close and it's forces closer. It is my duty as Xeno-Magus to relay information regarding the foul enemies of mankind and the Emperor Glory be unto Him to my superiors and so such shall be my final act: These are undoubtedly the remnants of a Tyranid vanguard fleet, they may have been hibernating here waiting for contact from the Hive Will for many hundreds of years. The dispersal of the Warpstorms and arrival of fresh Biomass has stirred them and they are continuing to carry out their objective. No doubt a signal has already been sent to the closest Hive Fleet and some foul tendril is unravelling to kill us all, Aestas-8 is doomed, we are all doomed. Commiserat Notice: Xeno-Magus Hendrickson is clearly delirious by this point, the remainder of his manuscript is gibberish about the 'power of the Hive Mind.' Obviously no such power exists and the rest of the text has been Redacted for morale purposes.

Bleh I haven't played 1500pts in ages so this is probably pretty shoddy, plus I'm going for a fluffy vanguard assault style thing so it's probably not the most optimised list in the world (it has Lictors in for a start...)
