FEG had (has?) serious financial trouble and tried to screw over non-Japanese fighters by not paying them for months after their fights. Long term, it might have been better if K-1 had been replaced by another organization entirely.
I'm not sure it would have been replaced, though, kickboxing isn't nearly as popular as it should be. FEG has definitely screwed over fighters but even so no other organisation has really made it worthwhile for these guys to fight elsewhere, I think if we lost K1 we'd just see less high level kickboxing.
I suck at figuring time zones out. Don't ask me why.
But I'll probably watch it whenever it comes on. I like watching combat sports in general.
By the way, we're getting close to 100 pages. I was supposed to make the last OP but I was banned at the time () so I wasn't able to. I've already got a thread ready to pull over from a Word document, so I'll take the next one.
ChillyWilly on
PAFC Top 10 Finisher in Seasons 1 and 3. 2nd in Seasons 4 and 5. Final 4 in Season 6.
Ebel- thank you for injecting some K1 into this thread! I heartily approve. We're way too stuck on MMA here. It used to be the martial arts thread, after all. Boxing we should follow too, if it wasn't so crappy most of the time.
Has anybody else read the first entry in the supposedly 4 part series that Tito Ortiz is writing for ESPN.com? I'm just not sure what universe he lives in but he does an excellent job of glossing over his failures and making himself sound like an all-time great (maybe he is but I think he's a douche so he's not getting that credit from me).
It has been reported that Ken Shamrock (28-15-2) and International Boxing Association heavyweight champion James Toney (0-1 MMA, 73-6 Boxing) have agreed to face in an MMA bout. Both men are age 47. The date and location have not been announced, but the leading candidate to host the fight looks to be El Paso, Texas. At this time, it is not clear what promotion is backing the fight.

Tito's last decisive win over a decent opponent was in 2004 and his fights are boring. The only thing he writes that anyone should ever care about reading are his twitter wars with his wife.

This, I hate me some Tito, he can't even accept that Lee Murray cleaned his clock and he still goes on about it like he was fighting off twenty cops and "lol dress shoes" even suggesting Lee's incarceration is some kind of Karma for daring to strike his lord high prince of shitty MMA.
Tito was the shit when everyone was still one dimensional.

I read it because I was genuinely curious about what he'd say about himself. I know he's got a massive...ego and I figured it'd be good for a laugh but man. The guy is deluded in the worst way.
Edit: Also I can't shake the stuff from the Chuck book where he says Tito was ducking him to hang onto the belt, which in hindsight seems plausible.
Caros "The Future" Fodor R2 Submission
Quinn Mulhern R2 Submission
Lorenz "The Monsoon" Larkin R2 KO
Marlon Sandro Unanimous Decision
Luis "Baboon" Palomino Unanimous Decision
Ronnie Mann Unanimous Decision
Jacob Devree R2 TKO
Also this will be the last secondary league event ever in PAFC because who are these people
Just because they offer exciting matches between up-and-comers that are hard to predict doesn't mean you should drop them. I usually prefer these to the tried-and-true method of UFC decisions.
The comments also mention how this guy was the basis of Nicholson's character in The Departed (despite it being a carbon copy of the Chinese movie Internal Affairs) and how the Fertita's are related to the basis of the crooks in Casino.
Strikeforce:
Larkin's striking is fucking impressive.
Almost as impressive as his MMA kiltwear.
Couture/Ricehouse is surprisingly even, and pretty exciting.
Ricehouse pressed the pace in the last 30 seconds though in the 2nd round while Couture didn't so he took that one. Get to work if you want to win.

I've always found the Galveston Mob-Feritta connection really interesting.
How was the Villante/Larkin bout? I'm bummed that I missed it.
Villante got a takedown early in the 1st round and humped him to no effect until it was over.
In rounds 2 and 3 Larkin turned it on and struck like a champion. Villante was tough but had no answer as Larkin threw punches and kicks from multiple angles, he was so quick.

Getting it edited as we speak.
Also, losers, make sure you make picks for both events for this weekend.
I think so. I'm Eastern and I believe that thing says it's going to be on at 2:30 AM for us.
I'm not excited about that, honestly.
...?
That would have been a fun fight.
booooo!
Is Woodley free?

Thank you, even though I'm doing scientific "guessing" for the UFC events, I'm legitimately just guessing on a lot of these secondary cards.
WHY ARE YOU SHOWING ME EVENTS THAT ARE THREE WEEKS FROM NOW
Who?
