Thanks for running Warban. It was a mess, but I had fun and that's all that counts right?

And hey, my team won without losing a single member. Yay!

One thing that might have helped the game even in the state that is played as: Holding a Seal actually gives you a new win condition. Also, don't tell my whole proboard that I've been given a seal :P But I guess that worked out for me, as I was all ready to fall on my sword and Void Slayer was pretty adamant about not saying anything.

t Infidel, The fact that you were coasting through the game made me extremely paranoid for a couple days that there was some gigantic doublecross headed my way.

Oh, Corporation Zero proboards are here: http://typethree.proboards.com/index.cgi but only Void Slayer or Warban can unlock them

And Arcadia/Empire boards are here http://arcadia-empire.proboards.com/index.cgi but only Infidel or Maxfrost can unlock them

I would definitely make the win conditions more bloody clear next time around. If something is gonna result in a minor victory you really should say so in the original Role Pm instead of having to have someone clarify it through orange . It may seem like common sense, but when you have a faction game where you have tons of mason groups and seers and a mafia at seemingly great disadvantage. It really doesn't seem like common sense that it would be , necessarily.

It's always best to make win conditions clear as possible and not require clarifications....just for future reference.

    edit:

A side note. You generally want to avoid
    Alegis wrote: »
yeah given that it was a 'the entire village faction' vs the mafia, with the village faction sub-networked under a common minor victory and having 3 times the amount or strength of the mafia 'super tools' it was rather a ticking time bomb game to try to get all the seals on all the summoners.

minor victory conditions are usually complete bs

Easily my least favorite phalla I've ever played in.

Sorry, but between the incredibly complex mechanics along with the in depth public explanations that neutered any chance of actually using those mechanics in my favor made it painful. I was revealed post narration via an explanation of an ability that did not directly target me. Poor. Form.

Being a summoner was supposed to be a bonus, but it was actually a liability. I had twice the people wanting me dead and couldn't actually do anything to anybody. My special power was incredibly stupid, as it offered no real protection against anything.

I wish Summoners could have been more offensive, actually. If you didn't get village votes, you could only attack by literally hurting yourself, and that's not motivation... And when unsealed summoners are publicly revealed, then the votes don't go anywhere else :(.

Though making it apparently unblockable might have been a bit much.
I never touched him and he killed me.

Isn't anything wrong with being a neutral vig either, as they can use their power to help the side who's winning and end the game faster. Though I'll refrain from commenting on the actual role as I didn't follow the game. From the comments it seems this role wasn't quite neutral either, and a bit overpowered with being unblockable.

Essentially just explaining there's a perfectly viable reason for a survival neutral to have a power activated on death. There's also the danger of it being viewed as a bluff, but you shouldn't complain just because the bluff happened to be true :P

I had no control over the other faction kills and didn't give your name to anyone. The fact that everyone just went around murdering people for the hell of it was a source of great consternation to me.

Though I do apologize to Lemminghead. Savant asked me to check with you guys whether Lemming was a viable target, but I was suspicious that there was an info leak on your end, so I had Lemming killed without checking.

Hmm, weird. I was just suspicious because as soon as I show up in the alliance I got killed by two factions. Convenient because I was a seer and had a guard ability. I didn't think anyone knew I was either except you guys.

I was hoping something cool would happen with our "secondary objective" of wiping out the Arcadians, so we kinda went for that while the factions with a hope of the major victory went and did their thing.

Corporation Zero proboards are open, http://typethree.proboards.com/index.cgi.

I expected my absurd survivability to be the key to winning so the key to victory as a summoner was doing NOTHING for me...

    Corporation Zero was basically invulnerable.

    Spoiler for wall of text.
Corperation Zero's starting objectives and rules:
    • Win the Elemental Tournament with your factions Elemental Summon
    • Or have another unseal Summoner of The Eastern Vestigial Empire win.
    • For a partial victory have an unsealed Summoner win.

Group Super Power: Fear The Cute Ones. ~ Sliced apart in a gory death
The Dark Chick is in truth a robotic humanoid interface one of many which the The Evil Genius has created. Each night your group pick who you wish to target for death.
While you have many of these robotic humanoids The Dark Chick in your group is the most advance. If she is destroyed you will still be able to send in backup units to for the kill. But the player who plays this role will be dead as far as gameplay goes.

The Full Roster of Corporation Zero is:

    23. Ringo - The Big Bad
    7. Extermatott - The Evil Genius
    40. Savant - The Brute
    2. 38thDoe - The Dragon
    34. Tiphareth - The Dark Chick
    15. Void Slayer - The Summoner of Phoenix [Life]

    Ringo (The Big Bad)
Beyond this you (The Big Bad) also have the following personal ability's:

[Will of the Great Guardian] (Life)
You may boost the summoners who shares your element type to full power and make them invulnerable to death for the night you activate this power. This one time ability does not require that you target anything.

[They call me ..... the Big Bad....]
You have a much greater aura and power than others here. Because of this your lynch vote is valued at four instead of one. While the Evil Genius, Brute, Dragon, Dark Chick are alive you will be guarded from all attacks. If you are lynched by the village will be protected and the lynch will past onto the second highest vote. On this you will no longer be protected from attacks each night or from any future lynch votes.

    Extermatott (The Evil Genius)
Beyond this you (The Evil Genius) also have the following personal ability's:

    [Death Ray]
You may target an elemental summon each night. Doing 100 damage.

    [Pinpoint Target]
Using Your Orbital Relay targeting systems you may target a player, All target manipulation abilities on that target are ignored for that night allowing for any direct hits that may happen to that target. All target manipulation abilities (Bus drivers, not guards) on that target are ignored for that night allowing for any direct hits that may happen to that target. Also you will be told the level of the elemental energy has. Some specials have a much greater amount than others.

    Savant (The Brute)
Beyond this you (The Brute) also have the following personal ability's:

    [Guardians Revenge]
Each night you may guard a player. You cannot guard yourself with this ability. If you managed to guard someone you will gain a one time Vig ability on the target of your choice. You may only block one attack. The extra Vig kill is a free action.

    [Research and Investigate]
Target another player each night. You will find out their name, their factional group as well as which kingdom they belong to. You will also be told who they targeted that night as well. but not what the ability did or what it is called.

    38thDoe (The Dragon)
Beyond this you (The Dragon) also have the following personal ability's:

    [Great Guardian] x 3
Target someone or something each night, That target will be protected from an attack. You have a total of 3 guard points, Every time you guard someone you will lose one of these 3 points. Once they run out you can no longer protect with this ability. If you are attacked directly you will lose an extra guard point. You cannot block the lynch kill with this ability.

    [Research and Investigate]
Target another player each night. You will find out the name of their factional group as well as which kingdom they belong to. You will also be told who they targeted that night as well. but not what they ability did.

    Tiphareth (The Dark Chick)
Beyond this you (The Dark Chick) also have the following personal ability's:

    [Robotic Repair Recovery]
If you take a hit in combat you will not fall from the first attack. You start the game with two hit points instead of 1. On losing the first hit point the village will not be informed about your attack.

    [Silent Observer]
Each night you may target a player each night observing them, You will be told what Kingdom they come from and who they targeted that night. But not what action they used. If observed by someone else while using this ability that player will be infored that you didn't do anything that night.

    Void Slayer (Sixth Ranger)
The Summoner of Phoenix [Life], an Elemental summoner of The Eastern Vestigial Empire and unknown to everyone but you guys..... a member of Corporation Zero.

Beyond this you (The Summoner of Phoenix [Life]) also have the following personal ability's:

Starting Elemental Power Level : 1000/1000
(You will 100 Elemental Power each day until you are below your cap)

    [Phoenix Rebirth]
The first time your elemental Summon dies it will instead become an phoenix egg. Once this happens you have two choices. You can choose to attack hatching the egg or wait until someone manages to kill or lynch you. Hatching the egg. If there is only one other Summoner left your egg will also hatch. It will only hatch with 100/500 energy.

    [Elemental Blast!]
Starting Elemental Power Level : 500/500
As an elemental summoner you have the power of the elements to protect you. Each day there will be an event where you can use your elemental power to defeat an attacking horror. To do this you use your elemental blast ability. Pm me with how much power you wish to use in that day. This amount will be taken from your starting reserves. If you are the summoner to use the highest amount for that day you gain death protection for the next day. Think of this as a risk reward mini game which only applies to summoners. If you power is depleted to 0 you and your summon dies.

    [Elemental Bonds]
Beyond elemental Blast there are some rules of using your elemental and the extra protection it gives you. Before anything understand that Elementals can often be targeted without the attacker knowing who the player who controls that element is. This is for your own protection.

Next If you do anything with your elemental it will be revealed for the next round as an attackable target. (This wont reveal who you are you but it puts your life at risk.)

There are several players who have ability's that can target elemental as well as other summoners. There are also villagers who can use support ability's on your elemental as well and again they can do this without knowing who you are as long as your elemental is revealed from attacking. This reveal will last only for one round after the attack before your elemental will be hidden again.

The good side to all of this is that if you are attacked directly by a kill ability (You the player) your summon will block the attack. Side effect though is that it will be revealed as If it had attacked in the process. If your elemental is attacked it will loose 100 energy or die. When it dies you will die as well.

    Read more: http://typethree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=2#ixzz1QhuXyjIG

For murder bot's convenience, we basically guarded each other perfectly so none of us could die from a direct vig, and ringo had to be voted out twice. 38th doe had a 3 use limited use self guard and guard others that drew from the same limited pool of three super guards. So basically two (Tiphareth, 38th doe) of us had limited use self guards, there was the elemental summoner self guard and ringo's self guard.

The anti bus driving power from the evil genious was actually the stronger power, it totally messed up a strong defense of the mafia and allowed us to take down balefuego.

The moral of the game, as I put earlier in the proboard, is do not make ringo vote and vig immune. ;-)

Anyway good game and thanks for running it warban, there were many new ideas that did not work out but I can see them being altered for a more balanced game.

For people reading this and planning a phalla. MAKE YOUR VICTORY CONDITIONS CLEAR AND CONCISE

    Role Fluff
Odd Jobs of the The Kingdom of Phalla.

The Odd jobs. Freelancers for hire belonging to the Kingdom of Phalla, Do anything from finding a missing persons to killing the missing persons. You have come to join the Quorum not because of the current situation at hand but simply because there is a free supply of meals and accommodation for soldiers who show up for this cause. You have Infiltrated the Academy here and are now considered members of the Quorum as well. Just like everyone else.

First In your group is the The Obi Wan. Having fought in many battles he knows he way around most situations. But since the end of the conflict between the kingdom of Phalla and United Arcadia Kingdoms, Such conflict has been uneventful. Because of this he has started a work for hire group called Odd Jobs. The next member of the group is The No Respect Guy. Second in command and the worst fighter of the group, He hopes to one day aspire to be like The Obi Wan.

Finally the final member of the odd jobs is The Cute Bruiser. Found wandering the streets in the the Eastern Vestigial Empire. Both other two members of the odd jobs took her under their wing. She doesn't remember much about here past besides this.

As your group entered the Quorum you where not surprised to see officials of the Absurdly Powerful Council passing by. While you don't catch sight of any of the high Council members you get the feeling they are here as well. You know without a doubt that as you both are of The Kingdom of Phalla you can trust each other. Not the only ones about though. The Army and soldiers from which The Obi Wan once fought are patroling the streets here. Beware the Royal Arcadia Army.

Odd Jobs starting objectives and rules:
ï Watch out for Royal Arcadia Army.
ï Kill them before they try and kill you.
ï Help the rest of the village where you can.
ï Discover what this threat to the academy is and help defeat it.
    Group Super Power: Odd Bombs.
Your group has brought along your explosive device called Odd bombs. Your group can pick a target to kill each day.

The Full Roster of Odd Jobs is:
    37. Sir Fabulous - The Obi Wan
    25. Egos - The No Respect Guy
    28. MrBlarney - The Cute Bruiser

    (The Obi Wan)
Beyond this you (The Obi Wan) also have two personal ability's:

    [Nobility]
You come from a somewhat royal blood line because of this the value of Your lynch Vote is worth 4 instead of 1 and your ability to help summoners is increased to 40 instead 10. You may also overwrite your thread actions via pm for what you really wish to do. If you do so I will ignore you thread actions for that day and count your pm actions instead.

    [A Clear Mind]
Because of your extensive skills in the realm of thinking you may protect another player from the the lynch vote. You may not protect yourself. This protection will make the Quorum reconsider their lynch target for that day and kill the next highest in line for the lynch. This is a once only ability.

    (The No Respect Guy)
Beyond this you (The No Respect Guy) also have two personal ability's:

    [Research and Investigate]
Target another player each night. You will find out their name, their factional group as well as which kingdom they belong to. You will also be told who they targeted that night as well. but not what the ability did or what it is called.

    [Dodge]
Because of your Quick Reflexes you have a 100% chance to dodge The first attack that comes your way each night. Double kills will bypass this. You cannot be guarded externally. Dodge does not work on the Lynch vote.

    (The Cute Bruiser)
Beyond this you (The Cute Bruiser) also have two personal ability's:

    [Plot Armor]
You have a 25% chance to Absorb each attack that comes your way each night and a secret -2 towards lynch votes towards protecting you. Both of these abilities are passive. These numbers increase to 50%75% and -4-6 as the other members of your factions die.

    [Elemental Cleave]
Because of your abnormal temper you can unleash an attack of rage making you a deadly force. If you want you may target someone's elemental summon. Doing so will do 100 points of damage to them.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, Egos

But are you seriously saying that warban didn't tell you what your victory condition was

    jesus christ

To be fair we didn't ask on our probards. Though we had some trouble getting through to warban...

Apparently the whole thing was just a pre-game side objective to get another kill...or so I'm now being told..which just makes things worse for the mafia and this whole thing even sillier.

edit: During the game, I asked what would happen if a faction didn't kill their rival but the threat was still eliminated. Was told they would get a minor victory...huh guess that is still true (since it holds true even if they got rid of their rival)

Haha that's pretty funny. I kinda wish one of us got targetted now just to see what would have happened

The mysterious being thing was pretty messed up at the start. It sounded like we were a mason group that had to kill each other as secondary objectives and then after someone clarified, we found out that wasn't the case. Had we have known that we could have tried to do something to move the vote off Nirya rather than just right on that bandwagon (sorry Nirya!)

No, no, there's no "to be fair" about it

A host should tell you your victory condition in clear terms, even if there's some trickery involved

I am not sure what game warban was running but it sure as hell wasn't a Phalla

A mafia game is about information control, a minority knows the rules and the game and the pieces. The majority knows less and must overcome.

A mafia like game has a minority that is simply more powerful in some aspects than the majority.

    This game had neither.

It was just a clusterfuck of win conditions and bad mechanics.
