Think of a human being as an empty shell made of sides. The back is one side. The face and torso represent another side.
Now, the face and torso are considered the front of the person. A person is considered oriented by the direction their face is pointing in. "Behind me" would mean "in back of me" or where my back is.
But "behind my back" is specifically calling into question a position relative to the BACK, which is already oriented backwards, or in the back of the individual.
So, to be behind someone's back, you'd actually have to be inside the person, on the other side of the skin and bones that comprise the back. Because that is the back of the back, or behind the back.
But since two pieces of matter cannot occupy the same space at the same time, and the phrase "inside someone" has sexual overtones, one must extend the range of behindness to further from directly behind the skin and bones comprising the person's back.
Thus, the area of "behind my back" would be the area directly away from the back of my back, or the front of me. The front of my torso and face. And groin.
