Introduction
I thought it would be fun. We came from all over the country, fuck I think some guys came from europe even. The letters were short and uncomfortably personal. Whoever organized this whole thing knew their shit. About us I mean. Grammar was apparently not their strong suit.
29 of us showed up on the first day, 12 on the next, seven the day after that. In the end, we had about fifty people. I think, the memory is frayed at the edges, like it's all fading into the walls of this place. I have no idea how long it's been since that day. we keep track of the days with watches but something about the time here doesn't add up.
Somehow, despite all of our precautions, we all got lost. Seperated too. Most of us have made it back to our 'basecamp'. A clutch of tents set up at the bottom of the stairs. We sent randall up them but he never came back down. took a hundred feet of rope with him and some supplies. Kayla said she heard him screaming. None of us heard a thing.
It's so cold here.
We are running low on food and water. We were lucky that most of us came prepared. We all read the book. We thought we knew what to expect.
We were wrong. Someone set this up, we know that for sure. What we don't know is why. I'm not so sure about the paranoid rumors floating around. Some guys think we were sent here to die but I don't buy it. Brad died sometime in the past few hours. I found the body, me and two other guys. He was messed up pretty badly. Can't really make myself say more than that. We're gonna try to get everyone together and see how to proceed from there.

Despite the unusual nature of the source material, this game has been designed with a fair amount of consideration for balance. I have a history of running...not the most balanced games, but I have studied my previous mistakes and failings and hope to run a fair game this time. I will also focus on being a more responsive and active host.

besides the House.
It is not necessary to have read the source material in order to do well in this game.
There are general concepts which the source material and this game will have in common. Things such as multiple narrators, non-conventional page layouts and a sense of impending terror will all be attempted. The tone will be roughly as dark. The events of this game take place some time after1 the events of the book.

1 That is, of course, assuming that any of that shit happened. I'd prefer to think that it didn't.

The house is loosely based on the classical labyrinth, complete with minotaur.
There are crazy page layouts, and mentions of the house are in blue text, the minotaur is in red.
It is seriously the scariest book I have ever read.
