FWIW, the Book of Mormon isn't just by the South Park guys - the third co-creator is Robert Lopez, who also co-wrote Avenue Q. So yeah, superduper awesome sauce.

Broadway is pretty much the major reason I'd want to go to New York, I might end up going later this year when my sister is there, but I don't know how many shows I'll be able to afford.
I've seen Avenue Q twice, and I saw The Lion King and Wicked when they came to Vancouver, they were all pretty great.
Also I heard today from my singing teacher that one of her students is going to be the lead in Next To Normal when it comes here later this year, which is pretty rad - I don't know much about it but I just started working on one of the songs from it and I like it, plus I've heard from others that it's quite good.
well if you're going to be offended by things I don't really think it'd be a good idea to see the book of mormon?
but from what I understand it's pretty even handed and doesn't just shit on things for the sake of shitting on them (which I've noticed as being the case in south park most of the time as well, so)
on NPR they got a Mormon who had seen the show to comment and they were like
The Aladdin play they do at Disney's California Adventure is actually incredibly good for a theme-park show. Only thing is there's no intermission or anything, they just go straight through the thing. But the singing is very good and it's as Disney as you could imagine it being.

i have doubts of the book of mormon being good but i'd like to be surprised
it won all the tonys and literally everyone who I have spoken to who has seen it has utterly lost their shit about it
I think they have 'good' covered
i just have trouble believing something by stone and parker could be that good
fair enough, but I do maintain that the South Park movie is one of the best movie musicals ever made, so I may be in touch with their brand of Broadway
Yeah I don't even really like the show (well not since the first few seasons) but the South Park film is pretty fantastic. The music is genuinely solid.
And Team America.
They are at their best doing musicals.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
I think by the time I listened to all the music for Mormon off of NPR it was already sold out forever. I really should go see more musicals, haven't actually gone to any Broadway shows outside of field trips, but I'm a huge fan of the soundtracks I've listened to. One of these days.
Saw Memphis, Book of Mormon, and Turn off the Dark during June. BoM being the best, Turn off the Dark being the one I enjoyed the least (it wasn't TERRIBLE).
I'm still totally in love with Spring Awakening and The Last Five Years though (those might be my favorite musicals).
I hate it when they go back and tack on extra sequels that series really just doesn't need. The ending to the second one really ties everything up nicely, The Book of Mormon is just them trying to cash in on the franchise.

Looking to get tickets to the Shrek musical out here, although I've heard it's just ok, but I actually liked the first Shrek, so who knows.

Sal you're awesome no matter what
no Sutton Foster, no Joel Gray, I think Erma was an understudy too
and it was still one of the best shows I've ever seen
in musicals it takes a lot to wow me in a show, especially if it's a show that I've been in, but it's just an astounding production
oh also Lucille Bluth was in it so that was fucking awesome
Edit: This show's music is a lot better than I thought it would be!
well, not the second part, I've deliberately not listened to anything from Book of Mormon

Apparently it is awful except for Jafar, as he's played by the voice actor from the cartoon.
