The most grateful thread you ever read

So my friend and I just found out that her mom has cancer. We're not sure how far along it is yet, but either way it's been really hard on her, and I'm doing the best I can to be there for her.

But it's not all bad. News like this has a silver lining, in that it puts a lot of things in perspective and makes you realize all of the good things in your life. Plus this can balance out the rant thread!

I'll start. I'm grateful that I have an awesome family who has always been there for me, even though I haven't always been the greatest son. And I'm grateful that I have a steady job, which allows me to lead a pretty damn comfortable, disease-free life. There are lots of other things, but now we have a whole thread for it!

What are you thankful for ess ee plus plus?

I'm grateful that my parents came to this country and worked their asses off so that I could get a good education and find a nice girl to share my life with. I'm so grateful, that I plan on doing the exact same thing for my kids.

You fuck wit' Die Antwoord, you fuck wit' da army.

you can't really move to the same country though, you'd have to move to a new country and do the same hing.

  • QuarterMasterQuarterMaster Registered User regular
But you're already in this country, so now you have to make up for it.

    Right?

Aside from having awesome friends and family, I'm grateful that I can look in the mirror and be happy with how I look. That never would have been the case a few years ago.

I'm pretty sure I won't be raising my kids in the USA. I love this country, but there are better ones.

I am thankful to have been born into a happy, stable, supportive family with amazing genes. Nobody in my family has ever had a heart attack. No diabetes, no cancer, no early onset alzheimers. Just a little arthritus and predisposition to weight gain. Honestly I am so so lucky to come from such strong stock and I never let myself forget it.

Turns out my dad wasn't lying to me when he said it was a slow burn in our gene pool. Definitely keep at it, it is the best feeling.

Speaking of genes in spite the fact that my entire direct family and most of my extended family need to wear glasses in some form, I have perfect vision, so thank you gene roulette.

I wouldn't say that I'm happy with how I look, but I don't hate myself anymore. I mean, yeah, there could obviously be improvement (although some stuff I can't do anything about like having a creepy face), but I'm not going to waste time hating on me.

I've had enough people not be completely repulsed by me that I can accept myself for who I am

I'm grateful that I'm solvent enough to be swayed by a unicef volunteer into donating monthly. I have a much easier time ignoring animal shelters and similar movements due to my general lack of disposable income, but water rights and diahrrea medication are a really, really big deal. also i got take-out sushi for dinner, since i've been counting my calories and i realized that i typically eat 1400cal or less in a day, even when i make an effort to eat more because i'm working out.

I'm grateful that 'I need to go grocery shopping because I've spent all day lifting heavy things for fun and self-improvement rather than on a non-subsistence wage to pay for my family's insurmountable medical debt' is a thought that I am able to have.

  • OrikaeshigitaeOrikaeshigitae Registered User, ClubPA regular
Also grateful that the antidepressants i am about to start taking again are covered under my medical plan, so that I can pay $2 instead of $50 for medication which lets me function normally.

i am grateful for being raised by relatively good parents in a culturally vibrant city

i am grateful for the lifestyle my father's job/income allow me to have.

i am grateful for all my friends and especially those that i made this past year at school because good lord i was sinking fast into depression before that happened.

i am grateful for my current internship at a company i love, especially for the fact that i got a month-long extension.

i am grateful for this place.

    more grateful coming later probably.

I'm glad that your jiggles medication isn't much more expensive. I know a lot of odd things cost ridiculous amounts of money, and I can see those potentially falling into that category.

oh yeah totally. But it's also subsidised by our national healthcare so without it it'd probably be like $150 or something.

really though, I'm grateful that I have a job with benefits. cause I have pills I need to take that get awfully expensive w/o insurance.
