I think he got kind of stressed out watching me play Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet because the enemies would respawn. He kept being like "Where did they come from!? Why do they do that!?" D:.

Nah, it's not 100% 2nd edition. Losing all wounds just takes that guy out of the game, after the game you roll for what actually happens. It's pretty likely that the guy will survive.

why is only melee stupid lethal

getting hit by what is basically an anti-personnel RPG but in this setting is a basic personal weapon

    should also be stupid lethal

There is a pretty good chance my cell phone is in my shirt pocket, currently in the washing machine.

Why am I typing this instead of going to check and possibly rescue my phone?

It's the 2nd cheapest flip phone available through my service provider.

I think it might be time to upgrade to a better phone, but I don't want to pay more than $50/mth.

Basic weapons in Necromunda are your average slugthrowers.

Maybe a laspistol if your gang leader is really fancy.

but not because of graphics because I couldn't get out of keypad menu

and then I went to start it up again a few weeks later and it wouldn't work

that is my deus ex story

do you have it on steam

I bet I could get it up and running for you

I feel like you of all people could appreciate it
    yeah

every time I start it up it immediately crashes again

not sure how I even got it to play the little bit I did at first

    okay, so

    1) install the game
    2) download and install the 1.12fm patch (this link should work, but there are plenty of others)
    3) download the Microsoft visual C++ 2010 runtimes here and install
    4) download the absolute newest DirectX and install
    4) start downloading the New Vision mod (it takes a while, it's 1.5 gigs)
    5) download the Deus Exe (a new, improved executable)
    6) unzip the files in the Deus Exe to your DX "system" folder (C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Deus Ex\System, or C:\Deus Ex\System, or whatever)
    7) download the new DX Direct3D 10 renderer here. Unzip those files to the system directory as well.
    8) Run the deus ex.exe in the system directory. Select configure and select your preferred resomolutions and the direct3d 10 renderer. Run the game. Voila!

    BONUS:
    9) Exit the game after you run it the first time and go to your Documents folder. The Deus Exe will have created a Deus Ex folder there with all the configuration files and inis and stuff.
    10) when it's done downloading, extract the New Vision texture folder to your Deus Ex directory. There's a text file in the zip you downloaded that tells you how to change a couple lines in deusex.ini to use the new improved textures.
    11) run the game again. enjoy the tasty new graphics.

If you're referring to boltguns they are only basic personal weapons if you are a power armoured imperial supersoldier.

In terms of basic humans they are restricted to Guard officers and improbably wealthy gang members.

Since Necromunda is concerned with hive gangs, basic weapons are broadly equivalent to present-day firearms, and said gang members are not terrifically likely to be particularly good shots.

They can, but I'm cynical about the notion that it's worth it when there are so many quality video games that don't require it.

You need to do a rearm roll every time your fire a gun to see if you still have ammo or it blew up in your hands or whatever.

The basic stub guns have a 4+ rearm roll. 50/50 to be able to fire it again.

They're used as specialist weapons in a military context, but are less common outside of that. Necromunda is about civilians living in the equivalent of the slums of the most deprived Imperial cities.

Also yes, for the purposes of Necromunda (and 40K) a handgun counts as an additional close-combat weapon.

Haha, the funny thing is that Patty's six-year-old brother is over and we tried to get him to play New Super Mario Brothers and he seriously quit playing because he couldn't get past the first goomba. He deemed the game "too dangerous" and decided it was not for him.

I mean, for me it's a basic measure of

    a) what else I could be doing
    b) how confident I am that I'll enjoy the thing once I 'break through'
    c) how much I'm disliking it

I have a lot of free time (and not many video games in the house) so a means I'll probably be inclined to give it a shot. Some of my good buddies who I think have good taste recommend the game, so b means I'll probably be inclined to give it a shot. But the extremeness of my boredom when playing the game- my lack of entertainment, my dissatisfaction from the graphics... pretty much everything in the hour or so I spent fooling around... says 'this is just too fucking unrewarding, I'd rather look at lolcats or send nude pictures to @casual eddy than spend more hoping this game gets good and I have fun'.
