You can run Netflix on a Nook? bwuh?!
And with my Birthday right around the corner, too!
If you run the Cyanogen mod 7 Android OS on it, yeah. It's just like any android phone or tablet at that point. If you wanna look at your nook books, just get the nook app.
The Amazon tablet rumors just keep rolling in, but now we’re finally hearing a possible release date: Oct.
According to The Wall Street Journal, and the always reliable “people familiar with the matter,” at least one tablet and two new Kindle e-readers will appear in Oct. of this year on Amazon. Whomever it was they spoke to, however, only mentioned one device with a 9-inch screen when it came to tablets which would line up with what we’ve heard about the device codenamed Hollywood, but nothing of its little brother known as Coyote. Also mentioned was the fact that the device would run on Android, but that has been the assumption all along. Interestingly, the source went out of their way to mention the tablet had no camera, which is a bit of an oddity in this day and age.
In other news, apparently two new versions of the Kindle will be coming along for the ride leading up to the all important winter holiday shopping season. It seems one will have a touchscreen interface, but will retain the current e-ink technology that the brand has been using up until now. The second version will not have a touch interface, and there was no mention of what its size or design changes might be.
The potential launch of at least one tablet by the company in Oct. lines up with the orders that the company is rumored to be taking delivery on in the next few months. We had been hearing that the tablets may launch in Aug. or Sept., but that could not just be when they are announced with shipments beginning Oct. It is a tad puzzling that there was no mention of the smaller Coyote, so it could either have been dropped or the anonymous source simply hasn’t seen it. It’s difficult to tell in situations such as this.
You can add this to the ever growing pile of rumors, but all of this is making sense, and so now it’s just time to see if Amazon actually delivers on any of it.
Are you interested in an Amazon tablet or a new version of the Kindle?
I don't know what you'd use a camera on an ereader for anyway
There is currently a drastic shortage of ereader-compatible visual pornography. They're hoping to make up the gap with user-created content.

I'm super curious about the new non-touch screen Kindle. If the touch screen one uses the same stype of e-ink, I would assume the non-touch would be a new screen type.

Why? Since it sounds like it's 9 inches large, that looks like it's the change they're making, rather than a new kind of e-ink.

Amazon is starting to drop prices on the Kindle again. Right now it's only the 3G w/Special Offers version, now at $139.99, but I'd assume the others will follow in the coming weeks and months.

So, playing with my Mum's PRS-300 was a bit strange. I mean, it's more or less the same as my 505, but the screen is just tiny. She seems happy enough, though.
I actually work at Amazon, and though we're obviously not allowed to talk about future products, the rumours regarding the new tablets were making us laugh today. One site suggested that Amazon will be dropping the Kindle in favour of the new tablet - one large, and one smaller one that will be taking the place of Kindle. That definitely got a chuckle or two - Amazon will never drop the Kindle in favour of a more expensive tablet. When it comes to Kindle, it's all about the books, and Amazon is really focused on getting the best reading experience for customers. Whereas a tablet is a more general-purpose machine, and not as suited.
I've heard rumours such as who is going to be producing the tablet for Amazon, from Foxconn to Quanta Computers, but all we know for certain is that something is coming. Should be interesting.
...and I thought of how all those people died, and what a good death that is. That nobody can blame you for it, because everyone else died along with you, and it is the fault of none, save those who did the killing.

amazon is really good about replacing kindles because this is the 2nd one i've broken or that broke itself and they're giving me another
but do you have a recommendation for a case that will be more durable...?
The official cover is pretty good... unless that's the one you've been using. There was an issue with the older one but that's been rectified with the newer design for quite a while now.

You should have been saving money since you first became employed. That's a very basic personal finance tip.

Just an FYI, but after the debacle of HP dropping the Touchpad like a hot coal, there's now a fire sale going on. You can currently get the 16 GB version from various places for $100 ($150 for the 32 GB version). Note that, with the Touchpad's Kindle app, this would make a heck of a deal on a good eReader. Plus you get a flash capable web browser and a few other neat things. I would never have bought this thing for $500, but $99 it's a heck of a deal. I actually applied a discount code and got it for $85.
Girlfriend bought me a Kindle for my birthday, and as such I promptly jailbroke it and made some custom screensavers. If you're interested, here they are:

Oh dear, now I am very interested in this. I checked, and it looks like people are trying to port Android to it, which will help give it a longer lifespan.

Yeah - every online retailer that dropped their prices sold out insanely quickly, though; had tried to get one but couldn't. HP Singapore recalled them from retail shelves without saying anything, too.

I'm thinking of buying one but I'm hoping the new one isn't too far off (IE months).
I'd suck a million cocks if the new one has a backlight on it.
Big ones.
Like big BLACK ones.
Seriously.
Don't know e-reader/tablets for shit hence why I'm here.
