Yes, I was expecting Lafayette to suddenly be saddled with a dark and empowered demon, and going on a rampage, because unlike Jesus he didn't spent all his life learning to control it, and Marni gave the beast freedom. I was thinking the scene in his bedroom was going to show Jesus as corrupting him.
I didn't like bringing back two old villians at the same time. It just seems lazy, especially if both are 'rogue vampires' of a sort. I agree that Nan probably knew of Russells location, and was instrumental in releasing him. The line of 'Eric knows what I'm talking about' was a hint to that I think.
People were asking for a buddy movie earlier, by the looks of it it will be a Bill/Eric on the run from the authority, chased by Russell.

The Marnie think was lame. Jessica was hooooooooot.
But - I thought almost all the cliffhangers lost any impact because it was too many, too fast.
Bringing old characters back like that - while ok, is still slightly lazy when in lieu of any actual new story. And why get rid of Nan? The whole Vampire vs Normals thing is one of the most interesting elements to the story. It felt like someone just said "fuck it, she's going nowhere - lets just get rid"
Oh, and I completely agree with Pam re: Sookie. Neither my wife and I can stand her.
Also - some of these people need to start eating. It's weird.
I can't wait for her to be up and about like normal (or, better yet, with rad powers) next season, just so I can drink of the delicious bitter tears that will flow in this thread.
If shes gone, I celebrate. If they give her something to do other than be angry all the time, I celebrate. If they somehow manage to start the character off interesting and then drop the ball - AGAIN - I'll laugh. She is easily the least interesting character on the show.
And "I liked you better when you were brain damaged. . ."
Got around to watching the end of the season. So fucking over the top crazy. Which is all I want from true blood. Its what I've come to expect and love.
Specifics
The good:
The Jason and Jessica post sex talk was priceless
All of the deaths. Even though I liked Jesus and kind of liked Tara, it really ramped up the "holy shit what!" factor of the episode. And all were brutal as fuck. Sookie finally pulling the trigger on Debbie was cathartic. What a bitch.
Rene coming back was pretty cool (though it was weird that he retained his fake accent), and the implication that Russel is back to cause havoc is even better.
Bill and Eric kicking a little ass is always nice.
The bad:
Marnie was resolved a little too fast for the cliffhanger the last episode gave. And really I just wanted her to be beat around a little bit more. When Gran pulled Marnie out of Lafayette, and she was just kind of laying on the ground stunned, I was expecting Gran would just walk up and kick her in the face or something. Disappointed it didn't happen.
The sookie/eric/bill scene was just kind of boring. I don't know.
It was tedious because it was predictable but necessary. They had to do the groundwork for Sookie to have Alcidesex, and that simply wouldn't be in character until she dealt with the vampiric elephant in the room. And also Bill.

So is Terry going to be a bad guy or is it going to be his new army buddy? Also yeah, I was kind of pissed Renee kept the fake cajun accent, but whatever.
Personally I'm thinking next season will gear up for the following season, which will be an all out vampire/fairy war...

Well,
Rene said "the ghosts of his past" of "that man" would bring trouble, didn't he? He didn't really specify that it was Terry; it could easily be Sgt. I-Heard-You-Were-Dead.[/quote]
I'm surprised at you guys. You haven't gotten that next season is going to be about
zombies. "Zombies are the new vampires." The new marine sergeant is supposed to be dead. Pam is still a rotting corpse on the inside, assuming that Marnie's death didn't end the curse. Notice both Debbie and Tara were specifically shot in the head (so they won't have to deal with them coming back except as ghosts).
The Authority is going to need a much bigger problem than Bill & Eric to concentrate on. I'm thinking that it's going to be zombies.

Oh, I hope that do it in an interesting way. This series' take on necromancy was pretty weak.
Although I think they have "solved" Pam's rotting problem with those injections.

Oh goody. Can't wait to see the shows weak ass take on zombies!
Now that I typed that, they'll make zombies the most powerful thing ever. Until sookie decides she wants to bang one, then Bill and Eric will go SSJ and crush them like ants.
I kind of wonder if Marnie just brute forced Bill and Eric into silver chains and onto that pyre. I mean one can only assume that demons would be to vampires what vampires are to humans, right?

In the World of Darkness, perhaps, but this show already goes against White Wolf by having vampires beating werewolves.
I'd imagine that demons are largely powerless without the ability to act through a human (particularly a brujo or witch).
I had written a post angrily complaining about Deborah Ann Woll's prudish contract, but it felt a bit creepy.
So I'll just agree with most people in Marnie's arch was wrapped up waaayyy too quickly (especially considering what was sacrificed just prior to that). And that the final minute was probably the most satisfying scene in the show to day.

I assumed she just dominated both of them, made them kill all of the bodyguards, then had them build the pyre and chain themselves to it. Or stand still while she wrapped the chains around them.
I personally enjoyed the Tara character immensely. No one had a greater more grounding effect than her character. This is illustrated best when she was in Merlotte's with her girlfriend and Jessica ran out of the bar at vamp speed. It's through her eyes that we see all the craziness from a very human perspective.
I... have a hard time calling Deborah Ann Woll's scenes in the past two episodes as "prudish." I mean,
we still see a whole lot of her. Good god.
So. About Tara.
Bill and Eric show up a second after the cliffhanger due to Sookie's danger from Little Miss Shotgun Woof Woof. Tara gets fed a ton of vamp blood and is healed, but half of her brain got blown off, so while the physical damage is healed, a huge portion of her memory is simply wiped out. She basically becomes the "Toni" character she was pretending to be at the beginning of the season.

I always find it sorta bizarre in scenes like that one where the actress is pretty much completely naked and getting fake humped by a guy, yet the nipples are the line that they won't cross. I mean, I completely understand not wanting to do nudity at all and keeping covered up in sex scenes (like wearing a shirt or bra, or having it be mostly under the sheets), but isn't there a point when you're effectively showing nearly your entire surface area bare (including 90% of your boobs) where covering ones nipples seems like a fairly arbitrary point to be modest about?
Then again, I'm saying this as a guy who was disappointed to not see Jessica's nipples despite the otherwise large amount of skin, so I guess the line is there.
Hey, all you people celebrating over Tara? Please go eat a dick. In fact, eat a dozen.
The main problem with Tara is that she's the writer's Misery Bucket, like O'Brien was for DS9. Whenever they need some easy drama, they just have something bad happen to her and then she cries. So I imagine now they'll just transfer the Misery Bucket to Lafayette instead. Don't hate the character, hate the writers for not knowing how to do any better.
And man, did they go through the characters they introduced last season:
Fairy Godmother, Tommy, Jesus and Debbie off the top of my head. And the werepanthers, I guess they're not all dead, but they did drop their redneck asses.
Yeah, it does seem to be very wasteful, just in sheer terms of time and story economy. The writers really need to tighten up the plot and not introduce so much unnecesary dead weight.
They tried making Tara a badass lesbian kung-fu fighter, and the viewers didn't like her any more than before. It seems like they were throwing shit at her character to see if anything would stick and then got to this point.
it's alpha-jackass who just died. All these dead people are coming back, remember?
And with the cement hole
I bet Russel was called by his master(If hes dead, maybe he came back?)? if not who do we know that knows where he is burried? (his spawn was killed, unless he has more). I almost want to say the VLA chick broke him out to run interference as he went nutszo on the country so they could get away safely and plan

I have no beef being that guy; you can see her nipples. Egotastic's pics clearly show them. God bless the zoom function on my Droid.

Just one possible way it could go down.
Pardon the double post, but I really hope this is how it goes down. If I could, I would make them use your idea.
I was sorta expecting Pam and Debbie to team up next season to be 2-bit villians out to get Sookie since she ruined both of their lives by being a cocktease.
I am just so glad that Sookie actually made a couple of the RIGHT decision for once. I've been sick of her Mary-Sue-prancing around, and of Tara's seemingly randomized decision-making machine (complete with fight-and-make-up-with-everyone-constantly programming). Also, Jessica. This episode was cathardic.
So what are those injections Pam is taking supposed to be anyway?
I really want them to explicitly undo the spell on her, because it's just weird looking at her and thinking "how rotting is she?"
I dunno really what that lady's powers are, she didn't really strike me as some witchy or magical type so perhaps it's just some alchemical concoction of some sort?

Probably not. Making a big deal of it all the time would either be creepily pornographic or grating.
And "I liked you better when you were brain damaged. . ."
That line about zombies being the new big thing could've been foreshadowing.

Naomi in particular, for the intro she was given, needs to have more payoff.
