So why DIDN'T Karate Kid die? He didn't "duck" like he told them. He's clearly getting a bolt through the gut. These, plus the other unanswered questions they created, are the only gripes I have with the issue. Thinking of the whole story, we didn't really learn a whole lot. The legionnaire's came, they revived Wally, and then they left. We don't know why they came, why Karate Kid didn't die, why he has to stay here, what they received in the 30th century, or anything.
Karate Kid is supposed to be a major player in Countdown, so they'll explain it in there. I guess he didn't die because they didn't really bring anyone back from the dead, they just pulled Wally and family out of the speed force.

Explanation of JLA:
No, he isn't getting a bolt through the gut. His body is to one side of the bolt. Lightning is damaging to an area, so he did get some electrical backwash.
Also, watch his lightning rod.
It's glowing after the strike.
And it continues to glow.
And he makes a point of making sure his rod is delivered to the future.
Read into Brainiac 5's words. At the very last panel, that's not B5's reflection in the tip of the rod.
That's a trapped soul.
The purpose of the trip was to go into the past and retrieve whomever is trapped in the lightning/speed force, and bring that person to the future.
They succeeded; the Legionnaires got who they wanted, and he is trapped in the lightning rod.
Who is it?
My money is on Barry Allen, but others speculate that it is Bart Allen (doubtful).
Wally West and his family emerging from the lightning strike is (1) an unintended side-effect and (2) a distraction for the JSA/JLA to focus on instead of realizing that the Legion has someone trapped in the lightning rod.
Now, I don't know why Karate Kid, Dream Girl, and Starman have stayed, but they have something to do with Countdown.
On the one hand, Cassaday is awesome and that would be a fitting tribute.[/I]
Not with Jeph Loeb writing the damn thing it won't. Seriously, he's been terrible recently on both Wolverine and this mini. It will have pretty pictures and lots of narration.

Ah. Interesting. Probably the best explanation I've read.
But then where will I go to find out who the pre-crisis Legionnaire's have?

I thought everyone loved Fallen Son?
I thought most people disliked it?
I know I do.
There are three people on this page alone saying they loved it.

Speaking of which, I just bought his old Hector Plasm one-shot he put out many months ago. And it is so awesome. Not quite as good as TFtBP, but still really good.

Yeah, Plasm was really great. Benito's Livejournal is heartbreaking to read, because he's a pretty clearly talented guy who cannot for the life of him find anybody to draw his comics.

My shop didn't have Spirit #7 so I'll have to get it next week
Also they had the variant for JLA which was awesome because it wasn't Michael Turner
and I picked up Scott Pilgrim Volume 1
and Catwoman: When In Rome

Adam Beechen can't write anything but Robin
the dialogue in Robin never bothers me and the stories are always fun
Conan 41
Hedge Knight
Incredible Hulk 107
Iron Man 19
Ult Spidey 110
Meant to get some other stuff but I can't keep my enthusiasm up for a lot of those titles. DC has been failing me lately: I'm not liking the Checkmate crossover, which sucks since Checkmate is awesome. Countdown is weak sauce. JLA is similarly feeble. And where the hell is JSA?
For now it's definitely Make Mine Marvel. Hopefully Sinestro Wars can change that...
did anyone else notice that Meltzer likes to do the "start sentence here..."
"...end sentence here"
thing?
i swear he does it at least once a page
Example.
First page:
"Listen to the boy, Dinah--"
"--they're not real."
"But worst of all--"
"They lied to him."
"But when the dagger in his chest is put tthere by his dearest childhood friends...?"
Page 2: "...you don't want to be anywhere near him."
"I'm not sure what torments him more--"
"--the thought of injuring Sensor Girl--"
"--or the fact that she knows him well enough to get inside his brain twice."
"We all do, Clark. Trust me--"
Page 3: "--we'll get them as fast as possible."
"Val, you know what's riding on this--"
"--he'll forgive us later."
"Just please--"
Page 4: "--take care of my Dreamer for me."
"Be serious a moment--"
Page 5: "--you really think I'm the fastest member on these teams?"
Page 6: "But the only thing that convinces me--"
"-- is the salty sweet smell of her tears."
"I can see the lightning rod, Jeckie--"
Page 7: "--please tell me you're not here to kill yourself."
"Don't forget-- I'm you, John--"
Page 8: "--I know how this ends."
I'm usually far more interested in artists than writers but I'm FED UP with Meltzer. I shouldn't be so aware of the writer trying to be clever when I'm reading a story.
On the other hand, this issue didn't bother me as much as some of the others. I'm very glad he won't be around much longer though.
