Gear needs to feel nostalgic and has no screenshots, I demand that old screenshots be posted from back in the day when Ghost and Scoot and so forth were just barely 50 till about 3-4 months after that(or just really anything I was around for)..BEGIN!
I don't have any shots from that time period (not that it'd matter, 'cause I'd never even met most of you guys, then), but I do have some old ones from the end of beta and early in I1.
First off, the infamous Ace and Gary duo (last couple days of beta):
This was my original Fire/Dev blaster, Zeal, during my 1337 sp10itz days (assuming, of course, that capitalizing on Cryptic's ill-conceived grouping system was actually an exploit), probably while I was powerleveling some friends. I used to hunt tons of Freaks in Brickstown, and used to love setting Caltrops and Trip Mines on tankers, in case they rezzed. It was usually a really quick death and some free experience.*
Somewhere in this clusterfuck of spandex is the boss mob for the end-of-beta Rikti invasion event (this particular one was in Steel Canyon).
And here, earlier in the event, a shot of the mass of corpses when 50 or so Rikti teleported into/spawned in Blyde Square.
This is just after the game went live. I was sitting at the trainer in King's Row with another guy in my SG (named Bone Collector; many jokes were made about that), when I spotted the gayest character ever conceived of:
*For anyone that hasn't heard the story yet: I was one of the first 2 or 3 people to hit 40 on Virtue, and probably the game. Unfortunately, the one guy on Virtue who beat me to 40 was that AR//Dev guy who posted on the boards how he essentially exploited his way to 40, using Super Speed's invincibility and the bugged mobs in the old sewer network that wouldn't fight back. He then whipped everyone into a fucking frenzy about it, and by proxy, I started getting a bunch of nasty tells in game from complete strangers about how I was such a lousy cheater, even though I didn't use the Super Speed bug or any of the other exploits he used. My leveling strategy was simple (and keep in mind, this is back in the days when blaster range meant something, and not every fucking minion with a pistol out-ranged your sniper blasts): find very large groups of minions, blow them up, and move on. If there was a boss, ignore him, just kill the minions, and make sure the next group was far enough away that the boss wouldn't chase. My hunting grounds went (solo, and it's been a while, so I'm fuzzy on exact numbers):
1-6: Galaxy City
7-12: Perez Park (groups of skulls)
12-21: Boomtown (Lost along the northern wall)
22-28: Dark Astoria (I'd instagib Totems with stacked Trip Mines if I was ever in the mood)
29-31: Brickstown
32-40: Crey's Folly (Swarms, which were minion-level exp back then)
Anyways, I got tired of being harassed every time I logged in, so I started up some alts, then found out about the powerleveling trick, and used it to level some friends, who in turn leveled my alts, and back and forth it went. But, eventually, it just got boring, and I retired my account.
In the meantime, a friend of mine had expressed an interest in trying the game out, so I figured, hey, why not, go ahead and use my account.
He eBayed it.
We don't speak anymore.
So, I was out of the game from about that point (shortly before I2) to the middle of I4, when I made a new account.
Supposedly, the account's still active, and I know it's been sold a few times, since (dumbasses never changed the contact info), but if you ever see Zeal, Aegis, Dragoon, or Nerve, chances are, it's whoever owns my old account these days.
Into Paragon City emerges yet another hero, barely distinguishable from the hordes of other psychos with superpowers: Fission Chips!
Once a lowly waste-handling android, he's been granted average cognitive powers and the proportional strength of a human after being bitten by a radioactive undergraduate!
Fission Chips is troubled by the concept of 'cat-girls'.
Me and Whippy, as Psychream and Voodoo Whippy, running through the Cap au Diable SF today. Squishiest team ever, the final death toll must be in the dozens.
