Man the list of stuff that a cop will find reason to ticket/arrest you for in the US encompasses all the stuff that would get a middle school bully to give a kid an indian burn.

It's still not retaining air as well as I'd like but it's much better than the first attempt and the quality of construction is vastly superior. That said, I'm probably going to move away from mylar and onto heat sealable materials for later Lighter Than Air craft because the butt taping/over taping process is far too labor intensive and I think I lose mass advantage with all of that damn tape. Then again aluminized mylar on its own probably retains gases better than uncoated plastic but if there are pinhole leaks and whatnot then that point is moot

    The first version looks... uhmm...

That's why I find younger cops to be the worst.

They have something to prove and they haven't been worn down by years of seeing the same things over and over yet. They basically are just middle school bullies.

And generally, I don't even really blame the police for this. A lot of infractions, like in Bowen's case, are used as revenue generating means for the state. Cops are rewarded for handing out infractions by the towns and state for this too. So it gives the cops incentive not to give people breaks because it brings in more money for them, for their state and the only person screwed is your average citizen.

I never said it was reasonable. I downright hate it.

I'm just saying that the police officer isn't 100% in the blame for this. The state gives them plenty of incentive to be dicks about tickets. And the state is the one that determines the fine incurred, so they're the dicks that set up how much you unjustly pay.

And it's not just police officers. Meter maids (or "traffic cops", pff, like you're real police, go fuck yourself) are even worse. Their pay and performance bonuses are entirely based on being an asshole about handing out parking tickets.

It also helps that the general public in Canada aren't as loud and stupid as their American counterparts. A few weeks back there was a rape in Zuccotti and protesters were shouting down the investigators... who were investigating a fucking rape.

My brother used to do parking enforcement in a suburb city outside Toronto.

He never specifically mentioned a quota, but he did always try to break his previous record.

Parking tickets are just an awesome revenue stream for the city!

He's still in municipal law enforcement, but well off the front lines at this point.

So it's just a dry rub, yeah? Is it just for 24-48 hours? Fridge is at 4°C (40°F) or cooler?

Edit: Was the bird fresh or frozen? When did you get it? was it in the freezer first before going into the fridge?

It also helps a great deal that this situation is being handled directly by the TPS

as opposed to G20, which was being directed by federal government officials and they brought in a bunch of undertrained small-town cops from Peel and Durham

"No-one's drunk, no-one's beating their wife, WHAT TO DO"

    seriously

for G20, the federal government people in charge of the security and police response were like "There's not enough Toronto cops to take care of this!" (and they're right, there kinda wasn't) "Let's bring in cops from the outlying regions like Peel and Durham, who probably have never had to deal with a situation like this in their entire lives and are likely to freak the fuck out and over-react!"

    so, that's what happened

they took the equivalent of Barney Fife and gave him riot gear

    "hilarity" ensued

I'm a bit cynical about it, i guess. I mean, did i imagine the thing where they rounded up Quebecois protesters and just gave them bogus charges to get rid of them? IIRC, they even got some unrelated tourists or something.

I don't know, it didn't seem so much like a "clusterfuck" than like a plan to "get rid of the protesters".

Then again, it WAS the G20, it's kind of unheard of... The G20 not having any police misconduct. All those protesters and TV stations from around the world. It is kind of a powder keg, I guess.

Speaking of which, my current projections peg that Cutethulhu will arrive in Europe in roughly the week before Christmas, although he may turn up earlier. If my guess is correct, where this becomes relevant is that I am visiting my Sister in Manchester with my Father and other Sister between Boxing Day and the 29th. If I happened to carry the cute one with me, how viable would a brief meeting to carry out a handover be?

a big difference between G20 and the Occupy Toronto protests when it comes to that is that the police did NOT want the G20 protesters there and knew that inevitably they'd turn violent and were basically on hair triggers the entire time ready to go sick-house on them

the official TPS stance on Occupy Toronto is "they have a right to protest. They don't have a right to set up a camp site. So we're going to enforce the law while respecting their rights"

    it's a pretty different issue
