Thief Gold lock-up - help?

I finally got my hands on a copy of Thief Gold and finished installing it, but every time it tries to start the game proper it blacks out and I have to Ctrl+Tab my way out and kill it with right-click/close. The boards I'm looking at are saying I have to downgrade my GPU driver to below 5x.xx, but Nvidia's site and many of the others I've found are being royal pricks about letting me find something in that range, and others are just being no help whatsoever.

A) Is there a fix someone's developed that'll get it working without downgrading the driver?

B) If not, can someone point me to a driver that's known to be compatable?

I'm running:

GeForce4 MX 4000/6.14.0010.7777
Thief Gold 1.37

    That was my base, yeah. The patch didn't work, nor mucking around with hardware acceleration and the like.

    It worked for me with the Thief Gold texture fix, without having to downgrade my drivers. I also have a much newer video card then you though. You can snag the older drivers on this page, you'll have to scroll down to almost the bottom for the ones you want.
