Haha, I still love that at one point I was attacked by some Dark Brotherhood guys and they had a note on them with a contract for my death from some NPC in Whiterun that I had stolen from. I carry that note as a badge of honor :D

Wolves that take more than one swing of a sword that can drop a Minotaur?

This is a prime example of someone complaining about something in Oblivion that Did Not Happen In Oblivion. It 100%, absolutely, definitely did not happen in Oblivion, no matter how many times people say it did. Wolves did not scale. Something like 5% of enemies did.

Okay, so I exaggerate a little. But the standard forest fauna DID scale a little, and it was noticeable.

No, they didn't. The only fauna that scaled were brown bears. The only scaled enemies in any group was the number one top shit big tits king of fuck mountain enemy right at the top of that group's tree.

After that, I went to the sleeping giant and I was attacked by Hod and Delphine and someone else. My whiterun bounty is up to 95. Is that enough to piss people off? Or was it because when the thugs attacked me and I unleashed a fire spell, I accidentally hit their animals in the yard. Is there a way to fix that or do I need to reload?

    Reload or pay the bounty.
Yeah, try talking to one of the town guard. They should demand that you pay a bounty or go to jail.

So after 135+ hours of play and countless adventures together, I finally married Mjoll, the warrior girl of my dreams. We moved to my house in Whiterun after the wedding, and since it was late, Mjoll went upstairs and layed down in bed. Lydia was sitting in the room as she always is, but I didn't mind; maybe some sexy Nord three-way action was in my character's future.

All was going well until I noticed that Mjoll's eternally friend-zoned follower, Aerin, had decided to move in with us. He came upstairs and barged in the closed room, where he stood next to Mjoll, watching her as she slept. This was unacceptable, especially on my wedding night, so I took action. I told Mjoll to follow me then told her to wait in the bedroom. I would be back shortly.

This caused Aerin to leave Mjoll and walk back to Riften. I escorted him out of the house, then out of Whiterun. We were nearing the wilderness and I drew my soul-sucking Deadric dagger. I wouldn't feel good about what I was about to do, but dammit, I needed some private sexy time with Mjoll (and maybe Lydia too).

Fortune smiled on my conscience though when a Frost Dragon attacked from the skies. A company of Whiterun guards rushed to engage, as did a group of Imperial Legion soldiers escorting a Stormcloak prisoner. Aerin drew his iron dagger and joined the fray, even though he was wearing no armor. The dragon eventually tires of hit-and-run tactics and lands in front of me. I rush forward with my Legendary Dragonscale Shield held high to deflect his frost breath, but it never reaches me.

Aerin heroically throws himself directly into the dragon's breath to protect me, but his bath robe is no match for the freezing spray and he collapses in a heap. A few swipes from my Deadric Sword is all it takes to fell the wounded beast, whose skeleton falls directly on Aerin's corpse. I don't have the heart to loot him and I leave him so that all may remember his heroic sacrifice. The brave warriors in Sovngarde are surely smiling on him.

I left the scene and ran back to Whiterun, where I promptly jumped in bed with Mjoll. Perhaps Lydia would join as well.

really dont get the point of diluting the look and feel of the game with fxaa crap.

the main 4 visual mods to get are:

    realistic water textures
    xenius character enhancement
    2k textures
    vurts flora overhaul

They should trademark that 'look and feel'....I think a good name for it would be "Drab"

The 'look and feel' of the game is washed out with a hazy grey over everything and the typical Gamebryo game enchanted nights where you can see for miles because things just turned bluer, not darker. There's places where the lighting effects don't work well, but they can be toggled with a keystroke, so it's not a problem.

Welp, I blinged out my Skyrim install, today. It took a few tries and balances, but I think it's settled, for now. I wound up using only Realistic Colors. The ENB thing was a big hit on my FPS, and I felt the colors were a little garish. Realistic Colors is perfect, and I'm using the "Legacy" options. That makes nights darker than vanilla, but still navigable without a torch.

Also threw in the Flora Overhaul, XCE, RWT, and a few others. I'll be playing a lot tonight and this weekend, so here's hoping it's all stable! FPS is fine from some quick tests, but stability will take longer to determine.

Thanks to @Dashui and the others who dump great info into this thread all the time!

It's all personal preference, of course, and there's nothing particularly wrong with the vanilla game's look. But have you tried any of those mods yet? The good FXAA Post Process Injector-based mods do, at the very least, two things: remove the game's green tint and sharpen the image slightly so more details pop. It can make the colors and the world look more realistic and defined.

    kb1dHPuxnVpuVK.jpg kbfidFXnuapsYt.jpg
    kHvvHjBGiRSs7.jpg k4qGmbAUM0Nnt.jpg

The ENB-based mods deal more with lighting and color, making light sources stronger and adding new, reactive effects to those sources. ENB is still in its infancy, however, so there are some performance and visual issues that need to be worked out. Regardless, it can still add a lot to the game.

    kbrpLuy44kiFI6.jpg kFPAkrO2m3Ex0.jpg

    kcW0fjKQb9qem.jpg kbh9vHSNvYhIx6.jpg

And both FXAA and ENB mods can easily be toggled on and off in-game with the press of a button.

Yes, there are weather effects in vanilla Skyrim. The snow in particular is annoying with the way it reduces visibility to about 3 yards.

Plus, snowstorms actually help the FPS because then the game isn't having to draw in details from far away like it would normally have to.

Have to say, I like the colors, but that ENB thing makes things in the distance too clear. Like, if you look at something far away in real life, it does look washed out in comparison to the things closer to you. Takes away the feeling of it being really far away, and that's no bueno. But hey, boats and floats and whatnot.

A really old RPG had this: Alternate Reality: The City. Rain would seriously limit your visibility. It was awesome. Way ahead of its time.

To erase any further confusion, anything in this list with an asterisk ( * ) is leveled.

In my experience, leveled enemies did end up giving me a lot of trouble on characters I played in Oblivion that didn't abuse super-efficient leveling paths or super broken things like alchemy and spellmaking. Xivilai were utter bastards and Marauders and Ogres could fuck you up pretty easily.

Yeah, that's one of the downsides of ENB right now - it can fuck with the distant and snowy fog. Elsewhere it's fine, but snowstorms in the coastal north can look weird. I just toggle the mod off when the storms come in and leave Realistic Colors on. The mod author is aware of the issue, though, so hopefully it'll be fixed soon.

It doesn't HAVE to, but it does anyway. Luckily, this time around, they threw in occlusion culling, so you only render things you have line of sight to. This is an improvement over Morrowind or Oblivion.

    Don't believe me? Use TWF.

Looking at that list of Oblivion creatures, I obviously just had a shit character. I remember fauna really not getting that much easier over time. Huh.

Bandit gear definitely leveled though (might be worse with quest bad guys), and that sucked ass.

It was counterintuitive character leveling (level up non selected skills first for a strong build) , not the mob leveling that made higher level Oblivion gameplay borked. This is one aspect of the "elder scrolls ideal" of "just play your character like you want" that Skyrim really delivers on compared to the previous generation - you really have to go out of your way and decide not to level a combat skill if you want to gimp your character- even then if you master alc, enc, and smithing even a gimb can be a god.

    Mother of god.

I fast travel to Winterhold, get on my horse and start moving. A bear attacks. I dismount to fight as a dragon shadow passes by. Horse is brawling with the bear. Dragon lands, ice breathin' on everything. I'm swingin' at the dragon. Lydia is running in circles, not helping one bit. Two bandits attack the dragon. Dragon is ice breathing on the bandits, the bear and my horse. A troll comes at me. I'm fighting the troll, the bandits go down, my horse goes down, I drop the dragon with my bow. Troll is fucking me up. I kill the troll. Bear swats me from behind. I squeal like a girl, power smackdown the bear, loot everything worth taking and trudge back to Winterhold, overburdened and super slow, cause my mule/companion is MIA. Lydia is just chilling in front of the store.

So I go "'Rectum?!' Damn near KILLED 'em!" Buh-dum bum
