    "Naww"

Of all the places to attack, why would you pick Glasgow? Glaswegians will eat you alive, man.

Actually, that's a point; why the hell would you attack Glasgow Airport? It's not a strategic target at all....
I think someone said something about holiday makers, but that makes no sense either.

Also, we currently have important things to worry about, like flooding. Incompetent terrorists sort of get lost in the shuffle...

Its an easy place to get a large number of civllians and cause heavy casualties if you succeed. Terrorism isn't really about strategic targets, the whole point is to instill fear and panic, and killing lots of civilians is probably a good way to go about doing that.

Really, this isn't a big deal.

Christ, I grew up with the constant threat of IRA bombings. Raise your hand if you've had travel plans disrupted by terrorism on multiple occasions. Or your school evacuated. Or missed a major sporting event due to the discovery of a "device".

Modern Terrorists have a lot to live up to before they can really be considered scary.

It seems like a lot of these copycat terrorists are trying for an English 9/11, but I don't think they'll be able to pull it off. From what I've seen of the English mindset, its just not the same as the American one (which once you get outside the country, becomes really apparent that its odd as hell).

Edit: For example, when I visited after the London bombings, I never saw any t shirts with crying lions on them, the Union Jack faded in the background with a picture of an exploding bus and the words "Never Forget..." in italics.

When my girlfriend came and visited me for the first time in 2005 from the UK, she wanted to know why she kept seeing those "unbelievably tacky shirts" everywhere.

Unbelievably tacky being the crying eagle with the Stars and Stripes and "Never Forget" in one bundle.

again, this isn't really anything new for us. not that we've ever suffered anything on the scale of Sept 11th(i refuse to write the date in that backwards fashion), but there was a constant threat for so long that its just something we've learned to live with. when you look back at the attacks carried out by the IRA over the years, even the unsuccessful ones put this piss poor attempt to shame.

and as for picking Glasgow as a target, as i said, Saturday was the first day of the school holidays so the airport would have been packed with families. there's also the added factor of disrupting almost every British airport by way of delays/extra security measures.

also, gotta love that fact that it was the terrorist that was on fire that was tackled. the other guy would have been too easy. can just imagine the conversation now:

"That cunts on fire, 'mon we'll beat the shit oot him."

I used to work at a Royal Mail sorting office - terrorism, to me, meant an extended lunch break.

They were trying to send a message to Brown since he was born in Glasgow. Why the airport specifically? Hell, I dunno... these guys get all fucking batshit crazy for aiports and planes. And what message were they trying to convey to Brown? Uh... I guess something like "fear us: we're so fucking crazy, we set ourselves on fire!"

I think it rubs off on people. My ex was a block away from where one of the 7/7 bombings occurred (actualy saw the bus blow, blood on the walls, etcetera), didn't faze her a bit.

Oh god I hate that! Shame on the BBC :x Why the hell would people be afraid to leave the house? These guys are rank amateurs... So far they've provided a nice bit of news, given the police a bit of work and made a mess about on par with bad weather or possibly bank holiday traffic.

Of all the places, they pick bloody Glasgow... Oh no, next they're gonna try and set fire to a car in Newcastle. O_o

    Typical small minded attitude.

You think burning to death can possibly compare to a lifetime of humiliation after failing to light yourself on fire? :D

Hehehehehehe, is there anything more embarrassing than a failed suicide bombing?

And Capt. Howdy... If you wanna stick with the stereotypes then Vinnie would be left to your average Glaswegian's mum to deal with before breakfast.

Well, the jokes didn't take long to start

"The smoking ban isn't even a day old and already they've arrested two men for smoking in the terminal..."
To be pedantic, Scotland has had a ban for much longer. It only started on Sunday for the UK and Wales

So apparently the guy who helped Law Enforcement by tackling one of the guys in the car is a baggage handler by the name of John Smeaton. For this act of bravery (of awesomeness) he has his a website and Facebook group dedicated to him.

    Way to go, Dude. :^:

The website dedicated to him is running a campaign to get 1000 pints put behind the bar of the Holiday Inn at Glasgow Airport - they've reached 600 so far.

I also found a great poem amongst the comments.

Twas doon by the inch o’ Abbots
    Oor Johnny walked one day

When he saw a sicht that troubled him
Far more that he could say

    A fanatic muslim bastard
    Wiz doin what he’d planned

    And intae Glesca’s departure hall
    A Cherokee he’d rammed.

    A big Glaswegian polis
    Came forward tae assist

    He thocht “a wumman driver”
    Or at least someone half-pissed

But to his shock nae drunken Jock
    Emerged to grasp his hand

    But a flamin Arab loony
    Frae Al Qaeda’s band

    The mad Islamist nut-case
    Had set hissel’ on fire

And swung oot at the polis
    GBH his clear desire

Now that’s no richt wur Johnny cried
    And sallied tae the fray

A left hook and a heid butt
    Required tae save the day.

    Now listen up Bin Laden
    Yir sort’s nae wanted here

    For imported English radicals
    Us Scoatsman huv nae fear

    Oor hame grown Glesca Asians
    Will have nae bluidy truck

    So tak yer worldwide jihad
    An get yersel tae F***
