We went to my apartment near campus and rocked some nap bombs. I woke up early, ‘cause I had to get some push-ups in. Dean and Marylou had boned in Derek’s bed, and Ed crashed on my couch. Dean’s jacked up duffel was in the corner with Clif bars hanging out. My iPhone lit up. I looked at the caller ID; it was Old Bull Lee who was all up in New Orleans now.

I was all like “who the shit is that?” A beat-ass looking dude, all jacked and in a stained polo, stubbly, an hungover walked up to the front door and knocked. I opened it and it hit me that it was my dude Dean. That dude hauled ass from SF to Virginia in like less than a hot second after I’d sent him that last Facebook message. There were two people crashed out in the car. “Fuck me! Dean! Who the shit is in the car?”
“What up, what up, bro. Marylou and Ed Dunkel are chilling in there. Can we groom up and chow down up in here? We’re balls tired.”
“How the fuck did you get here so fast?”
“Bro, the Wrangler Unlimited can rip it up!”
“Where the fuck did you get it?”
“My grandparents gave it to me for my birthday.”
oh boy all the pie we ate! with ice cream! nutrition!

cormac mccarthy he is not
god, every suggestion for books i've gotten recently besides mccarthy and like shit i think vonnegut have fucking sucked
uh if you did not like one kerouac book the odds of you magically liking another are slim as hell
it's not unheard of, but he doesn't stray outside his wheelhouse after Town & City
if you like mccarthy and vonnegut, there are a lot of authors that you would probably like and none of them are jack kerouac
Which I will still always enjoy
It holds kind of stupidly true to the original in some places too though
i swear to god if it sucks i'm going to get really fuckin angry
if you like Cormac McCarthy, you would probably like As I Lay Dying
The Stranger, probably
I mean you might think it sucks, that is a thing people frequently think
Yes to the first.
Haven't read As I Lay Dying yet.
For some reason I always think of him and McCarthy together
I dunno why!
Maybe it is the bleak sense of depression
I don't mean that critically, I'm not saying "oh he's so derivative urrhurr"
he just wears his influence on his sleeve, and the influence is Faulkner
Or some more McCarthy
I might not actually like him if I read more I am worried
this is pretty much the absolute truth about McCarthy yeah
it's also kinda "poppy" in the same way as Vonnegut
the blurb-word would be "irreverent"
sat-ur-day, saturday sat-ur-day
I should read some more Heller
man that word
"in _____________'s irreverent satire blah blah blah"
sick of reading that phrase on the back of every book ever
But I think it describes some things well
Like
The sense of the word maybe?
if I were writing fanfiction about famous figures in literature in which they were members of a mythological pantheon
Faulkner would be The Plaguelord, split in two by the encroachment of the north into the south and the dissolve of his homeland
and his two halves would become Flannery O'Connor, The Belle Grotesque, and Cormac McCarthy, the God of Gunpowder

'Cause I'd probably read that book
And then not understand it as much as I'd like to
yes, it's a part of something I'm working on now
I don't know how to do smileys on this forum but I would do the blushing one now if I could
edit: I'm not totally sure about it yet though and I haven't nearly gotten to that section, just started the novel about a week ago
we'll see how it works when it comes in, but I'll probably wind up feeling like it's gratuitous and chucking it
it would make a killer graphic novel, though
Let me know what happens with it, I will totally buy a copy
One Sold
it's good--great, really--but it takes some effort
