I like playing Magic casually where I can just find stuff that works together and play it regardless of what came from which set

I am also terrible at any kind of competitive play

I've played lots of games against a few friends of mine with LackeyCCG but it takes a bit to get used to the interface

I just decided to look at my almost forgotten decks (and loads of unused cards) and oh my god I've forgotten how much money/time went into it all. I mean, what remains is my main deck - a white/red fast thingy, complete with savannah lions, exalted angels, lightning helixes, sacred foundries. And apparently I was very close to finishing a blue/black Faerie deck with cryptic commands and all. But with my high school classmates we tried probably every imaginable type of deck there is. I used to have Mirrodin equip cats, friends had things like blue controls, goblins, elves (I hate them), madness, tooth and nail, decks that just counter everything for the fun of it...

I stopped playing probably sometime mid-2008. Missed anything good?

I liked the introduction of mythics

    super rare cards are fun

especially if you get lucky and pull a foil
but it was only worth 15 dollars

I got so excited and thought I might have one of those 100 dollar cards

    woe

  • drp527drp527 We sacrifice our own That more may rise in their placeRegistered User regular
I like mythics but there have been about as many really bad or boring ones as there have been fun to play or good ones

    I hate the phyrexians

    goddamn body horror shit

don't like the eldrazi or the Rakdos guild in Ravnica either

    my favorite guild is Selesnya

  • drp527drp527 We sacrifice our own That more may rise in their placeRegistered User regular
I started up around Ravnica and my very first deck was an absolutely terrible Golgari because plant zombies sounded like the coolest thing

over time though I think I've come to like Izzet (Niv Mizzet is fantastic), Simic, Boros, and Dimir the most out of the guilds

    Saprolings

I will fuck your shit up

  • drp527drp527 We sacrifice our own That more may rise in their placeRegistered User regular
I love saprolings so much, but I made a far, far more effective deck around them than anything Selesnya had to offer (aside from I guess Doubling Season, you can't not have Doubling Season)

Doubling Season with Saproling Burst out of whatever old set it was in is pretty much my favorite thing to pull

during Time Spiral I used Selesnya saproling cards in combination with Thallids

that was fun, even if it was ineffective

  • drp527drp527 We sacrifice our own That more may rise in their placeRegistered User regular
    edited January 2012
thallids are the greatest and were also the main creature support that saproling deck had

watching the number of counters I had to keep track of skyrocket was always hilarious and intimidating at the same time

one of my favorite things to do was to use Stormfront Riders in combination with certain other cards to do things twice

also, Fallen Ideal was the best in a G/W/B Saproling deck

Pallid Mycoderm has been the source of many an unsuspected win

field of like 3 or 4 thallids is all I have, but then I make 6 or 7 saprolings, attack with everything, sacrifice whatever is blocked, and watch the damage rise

I have a pretty good casual black/red goblin deck and a pretty okay also casual but I think still legal green/black infect deck.

And an OMNATH LOTUS OF MANA edh deck which is pretty ballin' particularly when I play gelatinous genesis for 81 mana.

My friend is working on a roguelike game you can play if you want to. (It has free demo)

    Short story time.

The bet magic game I played was with my sliver deck (duh) against an elf deck that had near infinite life, in that it would spawn elves like mad, untap elves, and had elves that gained life based on how many elves were in play. The guy was gaining about 100 life or more per turn at one point.

But I had a shifting sliver, brood sliver, quickdraw sliver, quick sliver, and (most importantly) seedborn muse. Seedborn muse untaps all your shit during opponent's upkeep phase.

So I have unblockable slivers that are doubling in number each turn as this guy is gaining a fuckbillion health each turn.

Then out comes the coat of arms.

    And suddenly I have 199 200/200 slivers.

Also, my sliver deck is designed to fight slivers with the windborn muse and seedborn muse.

    eeeee mtg!

I am not very good at playing but enjoy it anyway!
Currently have a handful of decks.
Werewolves, Vampires, Blue/White control, Red/Black bloodthirst, mono-white griffons (cause why not?) aaaand I haven't gotten a chance to try it out (still sleeving it..) a Green/Black morbid.
Also have a commander deck. Just a slightly tweaked version of the Angels/Demons/Dragons premade. Kinda brainstorming another commander deck.

    Other stuffs...

    * If you're in the Seattle area and either learning or into casual play, hit up LPS! :D I was going regularly for quite a while but then life happened. Trying to get back into going weekly again

    * Duel of the Planeswalkers is pretty solid

Mirrordin had nothing on that Urza's block, the number of broken cards there was absurd.
