    the ending was extremely predictable.
I KNEW the two love interests were going to end up with each other and finish at the same time, thats a given. its a racing movie. but all those other characters they put all the time into showing you got no endings, you never find out what happens to them.

    eh, it didn't bother me

we're talking about me, not you

    Wait, Metropolis as in

the Katsuhiro Otomo adaptation of the Osamu Tezuka manga?

Because, I mean, that was absolutely gorgeous, yeah, but it's also incredibly slow to the point of actually being kind of boring. Not so boring that it becomes a bad movie, but it's still a flaw of that movie.

Personally I would say that Redline is better, and prettier. That can probably be chalked up to my personal tastes, though, because Redline is kind of the perfect movie for me.

yes and its probably a taste thing

people who arent didnt like redline's artstyle or thought it was hard to follow might like this better though and also its SO GORGEOUS UGH

Anime threads are allowed if they go specifically into one series, and we keep them sane. And given how Redline deliberately eschews the tropes that got the anime thread here permalocked, this should be cool.

The last single-series thread I saw was DBZ which got locked immediately but good luck anyway, I'm not a mod or anything uwu
I guess it also depends on the mod. I know DnD had a long-running One Piece thread.

    Whaaooooo fire fire fire fire

Metropolis was great. The few minutes I have seen of Redline look silly.

    But everyone says it's good.

But this everyone is the same everyone that likes Farscape more than Firefly so.

I feel like both comparisons are absolute apples and oranges.

So I just spent the entire weekend reading Berserk and listening to Redline Days over and over and over.

I'm quite satisfied with this weekend (also Berserk is the best manga holy fucking shit)...

See, I can certainly see how this might be appealing, and I'd agree that it's certainly not the worst thing you could be looking at, but the sexiest thing ever? Really?

    Really?

Mechanic Girl in overalls is sexier than any semi naked lady I have seen on TV.

Also I watched Redline! S'alright. Not really a fan of driving things but all the batshit crazy random developments made it worth it.

If you guys are just praising it for the animation, might I recommend Paprika? It's a couple years old now, but it wow'd me when I first saw it. And it had good story. And The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is awesome.

But those don't have cars transforming into vaguely phallic things every few seconds so they may not be for you HOOOOOOOOOOO

    Oh brilliant

    oh no

that is not something I want at all

    br has made me conflicted

    more warnings
    - it is anime as shit
    - how beautiful the animation supposedly is gets talked up a lot, but the way it actually works is there are two noticeable kinds of animation: in scenes where there is not a lot of action, it is really choppy and stilted. in scenes where there is a lot of action it is smooth as butter but there is so much shit compressed onto the screen that what action there is is incomprehensible
    - it is stylized in a way that you may find visually offensive (I know I did)
    - I found it incredibly boring

basically from what I've been able to tell if you love anime or drawings you will find something to like about it but if you don't then ehhhh
    also
so much shit compressed onto the screen that what action there is is incomprehensible
this statement is coming from a guy that followed the action in the film Speed Racer on his first viewing

gonna second you on the action being totally incomprehensible

I barely had any idea what was happening

    I thought it was okay

not really interested in seeing it a second time

    but that's just my opinion

Also, I found the action scenes in Redline's third act to be a lot easier to follow on a second viewing. But I've watched it maybe eight or nine times by now so by this point there aren't many scenes that I haven't visually dissected.

I still can't decide how I feel about Dead Leaves. Fun to watch but also absolutely nonsensical and not nearly as good as a few other OVAs in the same 'animation centric' mindset.

What, the ending is predictable because
he wins and gets the girl? Sure anyone can predict that will happen in almost any movie. The way it happened was pretty unexpected though, at least for me.

What other OVAs would you recommend that are like Dead Leaves? Yeah it had pretty much no plot but I love it for being non stop action/ridiculousness from start to finish.

For a movie that may or may not be anime as shit, it seems to beat the hell out of so much other anime, in that not once do I think this movie took itself seriously.

The action could be hard to follow at times, but the plot, never.

It feels somewhat similar to FLCL in that sense, though I couldn't quite appreciate FLCL's humor.

It's really dumb, but I just got the biggest kick out of, "They must not awaken Funky Boy!"
