As spoilers are a bothersome thing here, in SE, G&T and prolly everywhere, is there a way to give us the Spoiler tag? Another board I have has it in and it is lovely...here's an example:
Would it be possible to implement? It's nice to not stumble upon things but still have the option to post them...
Steven also had a good idea of a google tag...where you put [ google ] blah [/ google] and it searches for blah in google and produces a link...?
Possible? If not, at least the Spoiler one...that's one that should be there...
Can we get the chemicals in. 'Cause anything's better than this.
I dont really see that. And informing people that there are spoilers ahead is just as good. Its not like most of the spoiler problem is from people marking them wrong, its from people who dont choose to mark them at all.

Feh. It's still a good idea...

I think the spoiler tag is a good idea, because most people are simply too lazy to line break the hell out of a post, size the text down, and maybe even alter the text color manually just to hide a spoiler, to say nothing of how much of a pain it becomes for someone to read it if they want to. An all-inclusive tag would probably fix most of that.
That said, I'm not sure that it's exactly the "out-break" that it's being presented as, and like Ferreous said, the people who really cause any sort of problem are the ones who just don't think about it, or who think it's not a spoiler... or, you know, are stupid. This tag wouldn't just "fix" them.
So I guess it's up to Alpha to decide whether the problem warrants a solution, or whether it's creating a problem for the sake of having a solution.

Ah, it stinks, it sucks, it's anthropologically unjust
I dont know about this one... let me think about it for awhile....
While I think it's utterly pointless, it shouldn't be that hard to implement. If you want, I could write up the code for you, then have you change a few minor lines and take full credit for it, just like something else.
I so did not take credit for that. I mod'd the code and gave you credit for the script.
I know, hence my winky smiley face. Honestly, I wouldn't even care if you made it public (editing out the login/pass/db info, of course). Maybe someone will find a better way to do part of it. It's kinda slow right now, IMO, and I'm not sure if it's cuz it's inefficient or if it's the servers.
The problem is you are not re-using the object, instead you are constantly disconnecting and reconnecting. If you cut that down to one solid connection then life would be good.
If it's easy to implement, I see no reason not to. It beats us having to open photoshop, use the eyedropper, and then write in "invisible text." Yes, we can shrink the text, which is all good, but having it be invisible might be that much better.
The spoiler tag seems like a good idea to me even although spoilers have never been a problem for me. The google linkthing worries me, however. What possible benefitswould their be to that besides flaming newbies who are to lazy to do a google search themselves?
Also, it's easy enough to do manually if you really must - Blah.

I think that is the only reason for having a google tag. I don't think that is something that should be implementd.
Don't worry Alpha, all these extra requests will die down once you shed your forumer skin and become what we like to call "The Admin Automaton, A.K.A. Ramibot"

It's been so long since I've posted here, I've removed my signature since most of what I had here were broken links. Shows over, you can carry on to the next post.

Anyways, size 1 text and <spoilers></spoilers> does the same thing.
Yeah, but you can still read it.
See?
People would still get pissed at seeing stuff like that...
With the spoilers tag, noone could get pissed, because it's not right there...it's hidden. Bah...
Feh. It's still a good idea...
but, i like the spoilers idea. why not?

Anyways, the code would be simple, the question is do we need this. Im thinking no right now....

THE Spoiler thread.
:?
Where are they? :P
It's on his list of things to do. However, it is a much lower priority than a secure, up-to-date board or time server kludges so you can post.
Let's not do this again. Let's pm alpha or myself.
I hope I spelled and used that correctly.
