Carbon Games are the creators of Fat Princess. And they got the idea of mixing Action and Real Time Strategy by borrowing from one of the oldest examples in history, Herzog Zwei for Sega Genesis. In Herzog Zwei and AirMech, you control, as the name implies, an aerial vehicle that can morph into a mech. The objective of the game is to blow up your opponent's base, yet for all the cool powers your AirMech has, none of your attacks can make a dent in your opponent's base. You can only win by building and commanding units to attack enemy defenses and blow up the enemies base while you command, position, and protect them.
Here is Herzog Zwei.

I've been in the Alpha for a while, and AirMech does a couple of nice things to give the long obscure genre an upgrade. Borrowing elements from MOBA games, your base always has a steady stream of the most basic infantry to march to their deaths against your opponent. Alone, they can't do anything, but unlike DotA or LoL, you can spend money on units with varying strengths, weaknesses and prices. When they are built, they sit at any of your bases. Then you, in your AirMech, can lift and carry the unit, set it down anywhere on the battlefield, and give it a command with the push of a hotkey (or d-pad,
this game handles like a dream on KBAM or dual analog controller) and the unit will push lanes, defend, or escort another unit in a snap! You can even dump units into your opponent's base if you felt like it. Initially, this is a bad idea, but it's an excellent way to harass the shit out of your opponent. Because if your opponent neglects a secondary base, you can spam infantry, dump then on top of it, and they will steal it right under your opponent's nose.
Since last year, I've seen the alpha evolve into something truly spectacular. The game now supports long, bloody 3v3 battles. This is less than a typical MOBA's 5v5 structure, but as you can see from the picture, that's for the best, as this game can be more frantic than any MOBA.
The game is going for the deadly f2p structure, but will do some things I've never seen before. For example, as you play you earn Kudos, and you can spend them on not-so-typical MOBA crap. Points are not just for new characters and skins.
Points can be spent on new units for your army. You start the game with a full army with every unit you'll ever, perfectly capable of taking on any opponent. But you can spend points on variations of the various infantry, tanks, cars, and traps for opponents, and fully rebuild and customize your army from scratch. You can also swap out your Macross ripoff for a helicopter, UFO, a recently added Osprey, and others.
The best part is, you can boost the rate you earn those points and XP without spending a cent: There are different pilots, and
some pilots sacrifice stats for XP and Kudos boosts. So if you think you're hot shit and can forgo a little health without dying and feeding your opponent, this is the way to put your money where your mouth is.
The game also has very fun Co Op missions and a survival mode (fans of Trenched and Dungeon Defenders rejoice!)
I've been on the Alpha since December, but Carbon sent out a link. AirMech can now be played in Google Chrome as a browser game. I've never really used Google Chrome but this will get me to swap:

They game literally announces "HERE COME THE CREEPS!" What else is there to call it other than an RTS MOBA?
I've only started PC gaming for a few months, I can't say I heard of a DOBA. I do love Action RTS games though, such as Battlezon and Natural Selection, so I'm all over AirMech, but what is DOBA?
On topic, I've seen you plugging AirMech in so many threads that I went to their site to check it out a little while ago, but couldn't figure out how to sign up for alpha. Hopefully now that it's on Chrome I can finally see what the hullabaloo is all about.
Man, Chrome Apps is weiiiiird. I need to use Chrome more and see what else is out there. Anyway, I finally got it working. The game starts off with something that has been missing since the beginning: a tutorial, finally. Natasha, a pilot with big huge....XP boosts teaches the tutorial.
The thing is that the Google Chrome app is in open alpha to absolutely everyone, but the Windows executable is a private alpha. But they said I could refer anyone who wants the Windows build, so if you don't want to deal with Chrome and want the Windows build, PM me.
I just noticed the "Flying Saucer Airmech" has the unique ability to steal units. It immediately made me think of this:
