I ended up... I guess sautéing the potatoes? At medium heat for about a half hour

Had tossed them in olive oil, paprika, garlic and thyme (ran out of rosemary apparently)

Really good, soft inside but nice skin, and most of them were actually one bite size so I didn't end up halving them, just cooked them whole

Served with some steak and spinach, yum

Thanks a lot fuckers. Now my cold poptarts are completely unappealling. i'd had dreams of brisket and butts, ribs and rubs after watching DD&D reruns last night.

Tempted to try that turmeric based rub this weekend if a cookout is required.

I spent an entire week at the Outer Banks last summer and didn't eat a damn bit of BBQ.

I was rather displeased with myself when I returned home. Found a damn good burger place in Kitty Hawk though.

When I'm traveling through the Carolinas, I only eat livermush, Cheerwine, and the bad Mexican food at South of the Border.

I was in North Carolina this weekend and was only allowed to enter my parent's house on this one condition: I make ribs.

Apparently what qualifies at BBQ down there is driving my father up the fucking wall.

While Carolina BBQ is fine, my favorite food memory from my trip to Charleston was the shrimp and grits. Up until that point I had only ever eaten grits as a breakfast food, it was a revelation. I need to try and replicate that recipe.

So I've volunteered to make meatballs for this weekend ski trip I'm going on.

There's ten people going so I'm thinking like 80-100 balls?

How much meat and eggs do you guys think I'd need for a job like that?

oh a garlic clove ratio would be appreciated as well. I think the rest I can pretty much eyeball

I've seen a lot of healthy choices in this thread.

Not so much what I'm about to mention

I just learned of a Polish doughnut called a Pączki.

From what I've read, it's doubly as unhealthy as a Krispy Kream. It looks delicious.

Pączki are amazing, I'm bemoaning the lack of Polish bakeries in Seattle

Come to Chicago. We had 4 different people bring in Pączki yesterday from 4 different polish bakeries (and one lady made us some).

    The chocolate ones were amazing.

I would venture to say that in fact they are hands-down the best donuts ever.

They make them at cider mills all over Michigan.

Sure! But I have NO idea if they're any good. They just sound good!
Baked Chocolate Cinnamon Cake Doughnuts (Makes 6 doughnuts)
    1 Cup All Purpose Flour
    1/4 Cup Cocoa Powder
    1 Tsp Baking Powder
    1/2 Tsp Salt
    1/2 Tsp Cinnamon
    2 Tbsp Unsalted Butter, softened
    1/2 Cup White Sugar
    1 Large Egg
    1/2 Cup Buttermilk
    1 Tsp Vanilla Extract

    Icing:
    1/4 Cup Powdered Sugar
    1 Tsp Milk or Cream

    1. Preheat oven to 375° F.
    2. Combine the first 5 ingredients in a bowl and set aside.
    3. In a standing mixer (or bowl using a hand mixer), cream the butter and sugar.
    4. Add the egg, buttermilk and vanilla and combine.
    5. Add the flour mixture and mix until just combined.
    6. Spoon into greased and floured donut pan.*
    7. Bake for 10 minutes, or until the tops spring back when lightly pressed.
    8. To make the icing, place all of the ingredients in a bowl and whisk to combine.
    9. Cool.
    10. Drizzle with frosting and serve.

    * If you don’t have a doughnut pan, place the dough in a large Ziploc bag, seal the bag airtight and then cut off a 1/2 inch of one corner. Pipe the dough into (circles) doughnuts on a Silpat or parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes and allow to cool.
