Also. As the father of a 3 year old boy, I can say that Cars 2 is not the steaming pile if dogshit everybody makes it out to be

There are some pretty good moments in it but it's just merchandise fodder with a stupid ending

    No Pixar involvement, though.

I've seen so much worse in movies than both Cars. Even if you only limited it to CGI animation

Pixar's worst? Maybe. Probably. But still not a horrible movie

    Or Shark Tale

I liked Megamind, and MvA wasn't awful, just not good. And while shrek 4 wasn't good out had the pied piper playing beastie boys, so it at least gets 1 star from me

MvA looked way blander than MNM edit: visual style, rather than tech
it was also worse in every other way
there are plenty of shitty CGI movies, mostly from DreamWorks, and MvA is the sludge that oozed out under the barrel

I get why people like and love Megamind. I just despise it.

Also not to hate on Dreamworks too much I just want to say HTTYD is one of my favorite animated movies and Puss In Boots was surprisingly good.

I liked the screaming-reaction gag in the war room in MvA, at least. I forget most of the rest of the movie.

And it's not a Big Major Studio, but I saw Battle for Terra in the theater and it was very very meh.

My vitriol is also partly a result of the fact that I paid $8.50 to see MvA and then (picking up the pieces of my shattered soul) went to the dollar theater and saw Coraline for $1.50

The Wild? That was Disney's version.

Like it always goes, Dreamwork's has one, Disney has the other. And they seem to alternate who gets what out first (though I suspect it's because in a lot of cases, Dreamworks catches wind of what Disney/Pixar has in mind, and rushes out a similar movie. But it probably goes both ways too).

    Finding Nemo / Shark Tale

Coraline was seriously close to Miyazaki quality, just smaller in scope and with more bite to it

    love that movie so much

Huh. This is my first time hearing of that movie.

I was in Korea at the time and we got Over the Hedge there but I don't remember seeing The Wild on the theater posters at all.

I know Pixar cancelled Newt because of Rio and Alpha and Omega coming out. Which was probably a good idea because a movie about animals trying to bone made for kids is kinda awkward.

I think that was a missed opportunity. Alpha and Omega looked like shit, and Rio seemed forgettable at best. But I've seen some of the sketches for Newt, and they would've looked fantastic. You know some of those scenes in Fern Gully, that used the early CGI for blooming flowers and leaves with sun shining through them? That, but on Pixar's special blend of visual crack. I would've loved it, and it would've been more original then Brave.

But, alas, it's not to be.

I actually really like this movie, if only for the scene where the squirrel drinks coffee and everything goes into slow motion

But in general it was pretty decent for a non-Pixar animated film
