I really like the artwork style Black Tusk and Baroness have going on on their covers,
That's John Baizley from Baroness' artwork. He's also done covers for Kylesa, Kvelertak, Skeletonwitch, Pig Destroyer, and some others I don't remember.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDkeeHIl-DU
not sure why Auto skipped Rhino, he was all about that when it came out Looks like they're now Horn of the Rhino? I guess that's a pretty cool name-change, seeing as all the rhinos will be gone because of ignorant traditional medicine scumfuckery.
"All lyrics are in the Upper Bavarian dialect." Anyone know if that any important meaning? Or is it like Arckanum singing in the most elite languages possible so no one will ever translate the lyrics?
Also, the Nefarious debut comes out at the same time. Looks like another project of Winter from Forest Silence. Here's a seven-year-old song since I can't find anything from the debut: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSzSEK_8dHE
Good to hear something official from Summoning! I guess another year won't make too much of a difference...
That Sigh track made me smile from the get-go. Such a fun band. Love the art, too.

It's pretty meh.
“Every time we walk along a beach some ancient urge disturbs us so that we find ourselves shedding shoes and garments or scavenging among seaweed and whitened timbers like the homesick refugees of a long war.” - Loren Eiseley
So can Peaceville try and milk the Darkthrone brand anymore? Is there any milk left in that cow?
Yeah. They've got another udder reserved for Autopsy, and are releasing that new comp this week too. Though, to be fair, that one has more new material on it at least (the rest are remastered tracks from the EPs), so it's much more valuable than the shitty Torn from the Grave collection.
That new Sigh track makes it seem like they are returning to the more whimsical nature of Scenario IV: Dread Dreams.
That's a really good album, though having more vocals throughout would make it a killer. It's been a few years but hopefully they're onto something new.
God dammit. There was a big sludge discussion followed by Lunar Aurora, Sigh, and Summoning talk... And I was at home being sick not participating.
So, uh, yeah... count me as excited for all that shit as well.
Also, since I didn't weigh in on the sludge, and all of you took most of my recommendations, I am left with a few paltry scraps that I'm surprised Absurdr didn't mention, since I got in to these bands from him (yeah, yeah, they may be more doom or experimental or whatever, but they're damn good):
Thought this was going to be an awesome video, and it nearly is. Should expound more on the violent side of things, but it's still good to see women get some time at the "set the world ablaze" helm. I also like that they seem to be taking digs at other black metal artists in the video - they throw a Mayhem cd out of the car. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=karDU2TpDT0
Looking at the youtube comments for Anguished is...well it's fucking youtube. I love that people complain that she sounds like she's dying and that it's not comfortable. It's black metal, you thick fucks, it's not supposed to make you feel like puppies in a poppyfield. Gaaaahl, the internet.
Not metal but I get to see The Minibosses along with The Littlest Viking (instrumental rock their bandcamp page shows promise) and Bella Novella (no idea) live again in LA this Saturday
On that PL track, it's okay. Some riffs just feel like retreads of retreads.

That was one of the things I liked about that Anguished album when it was sent to me for review.
The new Outcast is decent, pretty much what I expected: Meshuggah math grooves that explode into progressive death/thrash riffing. Don't think I liked it quite so much as their second album. The new Drudkh, on the other hand, seems a tad on the boring side.
Video aside, I felt like that Sektemtum album was pretty average modern Norse-styled dissonant black riffing with a bit more simplicity to it. Like a street version of Dark Funeral or Watain or something. Didn't like the vocals, nothing really sinister about them just a lot of volume.

I saw CTTS and Kylesa tonight. CTTS were great but played everything a bit slower than on record and the crowd were absolutely dead during them. Apart from that, I really enjoyed it. Kinda disappointed I didn't get to meet them and ask why in the fuck does the remix of Houdini Logic even exist. Kylesa were pretty poor which was disappointing because they were great last time I saw them.

Yeah, her vocals are killer. You might say they're really...anguished.
Yeah, the new Outcast seems like a pretty small step from their last. I'm also not feeling the new Napalm Death. I'm not a big grind fan to begin with, but their last one tickled me more.
Hm, I like the simplicity on that Sektemtum. It's admittedly more on the mosh-friendly side, but that's nice from time to time. And the groaning sneer of the vocals suits me just fine
And what the hell, it was in the 60s today. I might as well shelve the black metal at this rate.
I'm also not feeling the new Napalm Death. I'm not a big grind fan to begin with, but their last one tickled me more.
I'm not either. The riffs on the previous album felt far more creative, whereas these are pretty much run of the mill Napalm Death. Not that interesting or exciting. The new Coldworker was a little better, and largely in the same vein.
Also, if any of you guys are into some raw windy psychedelic space rocking music in the vein of Hawkwind, you might check out this album:
Not a big fan of Black in Mind, Auto? Some of the tracks on there aren't bad, but the whole album does tend drag on for too long. I couldn't get into the last Rage album.
I been listening to the Candlemass self titled recently, which I picked up along with To Mega Therion (thanks to the excellent review on FtDR). And of course, awaiting Bury the Light's release, hopefully get that next week at some point.

Black in Mind wasn't a bad album. There's a generation of their fans who consider it their best, though, and to me that's ridiculous. My favorites are the first five albums, far and above anything else. I can remember every line and note of Perfect Man and still listen to it constantly. Incredibly creative speed/power metal. Since that time I've liked Unity the most, the songs were superb. Ghosts is interesting, too, though a little wimpy.
That new Terrorizer sounds great. Doesn't seem to hold my attention, though.
Furze will be releasing his next album in May. Apparently it's 90% instrumental, with singing only in the last song. While I do love his weirdo vocals, I'm pretty optimistic about this turning out well seeing as Reaper Subconscious Guide already had its share of instrumental sections. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaZnW36qNv4
Furze is great for hacking wood or finding yourself under-dressed, sock-deep in snow with only a spliff to keep you warm.

Damn, new Pandemonium is good news. I was a big fan of Hellspawn, and the song you linked is indeed great. That's a decently unusual way of juxtaposing the vocals, not the usual beauty and the beast format.

Folks, I come for some assistance.
I get to do a presentation in my History of the Guitar course on neoclassical guitar players. Aside from the obvious (Malmsteen, Becker, Friedman, etc), I wanted to touch on the more hard rock side of things so it's not all complete wankery. I know Ritchie Blackmore is regarded as one of the earlier neoclassical players, but are there any songs in particular by Deep Purple or Rainbow that really display this? My knowledge of both band's libraries are limited at best. I could also look at his folk project I suppose.
If there's anybody else you guys could suggest, that'd be great. It's supposed to be half an hour, I came up with the topic, so I feel pretty good about it. Just looking for some others I may be neglecting.
Immediately I think of Burn by Deep Purple (the idea at about 2.50 in and repeated by Jon Lord later on). Other songs have similar classical sounding elements to them, Gates of Babylon by Rainbow being one that sticks out. This is a really hard question as I'm not familiar with neoclassical compositions.
Maybe Rainbow's Stargazer also? I just want to mention Stargazer because it fucking rules.
Edit - A light in the Black solo?

Wormed will be putting out an album this Spring. Nine years since the debut, wonder how they've held up.
I just noticed that Ingurgitating Oblivion used to be Of Trees and Orchids. Such a pretty name for a death metal band. I get the feeling I'm never going to hear those two albums.

The other song, "Amnesia," is quite different and good. Seems like they are finally making good use of their saxophone playing member.
