Guys, I may have gotten really excited about a panel at PAX about video games and education. And I may have gotten really excited about the rise of video games in our culture as seen by how esports is being taken seriously at sports conventions. And I may have just spent my Saturday afternoon writing an essay about why schools should move to include Bastion in their English curriculum... so far the rough draft is about 5 pages.
Yeah.
This article explores how research conducted in the emerging discipline of Game
Studies may be used to develop tools for teaching videogames in the English
and Literacy classroom. The article argues, by drawing on the debate between
‘narratologists’ and ‘ludologists’ that acknowledging and marking out the key
differences between videogame play and the ‘reading’ or ‘consumption’ of other
media texts is integral to the successful uptake and development of videogamebased
and videogame-centred curriculum.
The need to expand traditional, print-based versions of literacy to also
incorporate attention to multimodal forms of text and literacy in the English
curriculum is now well established. Much can be learnt about students and
their literacy practices from the exploration of their engagement with digital
culture – particularly videogames – from their out-of-school lifeworlds. However,
the emerging set of skills and competencies or, the ‘new’ literacies and literacy
practices associated with multiple and ever-emerging genres generated through
information and communications technologies, present challenges in terms of how
they might be conceptualised as literacy (or not) and how the multiple dimensions
entailed in gameplay are increasingly a part of what it means to be literate in the
21st century. Drawing on two case studies of classroom work, the paper describes
approaches to conceptualising the complexity of digital texts and their access,
production and distribution and the opportunity to create spaces where students
could interact, socialise and learn in both the real and virtual world. Dimensions
such as play, interactivity, action, movement and time raise challenging questions
about the limits and possibilities of constructing games and gameplay as texts and
literacy practices that push the boundaries of literacy.
Ugh academics studying video games is awesome and all, but I can't help but feel the generational disconnect between the people studying games and the people playing them. I have done several lit reviews and research projects on the subject and it seems like a lot of time and effort to basically say the youth of today learn well through interaction and constantly changing stimuli. Having an environment where failure is a pathway to learning rather than punishment and comparison certainly helps as well. Play, interaction and the ability to learn things your own way are important, you will find the same thing published in research 2 generations ago. You can see the exact same stuff being applied to education prior to the age of computers, the only difference is the medium has changed from mechanical driven devices to computer driven devices. We are transitioning from a state of memorization to a state of application again, and will most probably ride out the cycle until we come right on back to the banking style of education.
yet I'm not drunk enough to forgo sleep and play until I feel bad about myself

I had a dream that I found a toy Goomba on a playground. I took it home and took pictures of it with my dog, then posted the pictures here for your amusement.
That is the only situation in which I will BM someone. Don't care if you 6pool me, or do something stupid which ends up working anyway, but if you say I'm cheating then I'm going to drop all politeness.
I can't wait to get my bike back out when it gets warmer. So excited cause it's the best
it was only an introductory lesson. still time to wait before we sort out the finances for a bike as well as where the hell to keep it. two car garage filled with two cars - not sure where it can go.

got advice to go 11overpool/18 hatch against protoss, which I will probably start doing since now that I'm facing plats, the ability to execute cheese has gotten better.
@kedinik I lost to hummingbird, only set to have happened thus far. lost 0-2, gave him one good game.
Live report-style post since I had fun watching the deciding game.
SorC stole gas, then both went phoenixes. Sorc had a few more due to gas steal but Trunkers defended well with stalkers and his own phoenix count.
Both players expanded with very similar armies while upgrading and teching. Trunkers opted for heavy ground upgrades and colossi tech while SorC secretly massed carriers behind his third. Trunkers responded to the scouted third with a bold double expand, one ninja'd in the corner.
Trunkers rolled out with a faster max, dark templar mixed in and a huge colossi count, obliterating SorC's ground army and 4th. He was, however, driven out with the reveal of the carrier fleet.
Trunkers grabbed blink and rolled out with his maxed army again, this time with more stalkers. However, the near-max fleet of carriers proved too strong for the army that was handicapped by colossi pop space.
SorC's carrier fleet began slowly-but-steadily wiping expansions out with chargelot support and in the end proved too strong for the void ray / blink army that Trunkers was able to amass before the fleet came knocking on his natural 3rd's door.

That sounds like a horribly non-eco build.
14 pool should be enough. Just know where that probe is always.
11 overpool 18 hatch ends up being the most economical build, apparently
it was in one of the tl topics with far too many graphs and computer stuff

I've heard to always take those things with a grain of salt, but even if 11overpool IS non-economical, I can see being able to keep up as I will be droning to 3 bases anyhow. Or killing them with 10 roaches a few minutes later.

Overpool is a sexy build. Tricky with the gas timings though. You need some extra minerals early on to be able to spend all that larva.

Well your opponent instructed the cannon to kill the pylon.
Why that might be, I can't imagine. Misclick, or trying to open up his wall to get out?
the whole point is to make 3 bunkers and I just totally forgot about needing the money to do so

Don't see a lot of pro's doing it either.
Your life expectancy is now reduced by 20 years.
Probably best non-Korean non-Stephano ZvP around.
