Regrets. The one that got away.

Let's talk about something you SE++ folk know a lot about! PAINFUL REGRET

Regret is not the same thing as losing. You can win and still regret it. Your triumphs are regrettable and your failures are regrettable, though in different ways.

You can have regret that you lost a girl, lost a guy, didn't say "YES" when you had the chance, didn't stand up for your friend when they needed you. Maybe these are petty regrets, or maybe if you could change the actions of those regrets it would change history a la Quantum Leap.

But then again, some regrets are unchangeable. They are who we are. Some of us regret our height, weight, faces. Some people regret their health, station in life, or wealth. We call this group whiners, don't regret that which you cannot change! Words to live by.

But me, my focus of regret is on some silly thing some guy posted in a G&T thread.

You see this? It's all I really wanted when brawl came out. Was to win a trophy for my troubles. Then they sandbagged my ass to hong kong by having me play on the nunchucks, all items on, and with custom stages. So my last match of the gamestop tourney was on custom stage medium, and at the 6 second mark a hammer spawned next to my opponent and I was instantly destroyed. I lost the match due to last minute bullshit that would have been irrelevant if I could have done a full hop leap to glide to shuttle loop to get back on stage after falling off a falling platform, but the nunchucks were imprecise.

I will never get the chance to earn that trophy. I will never get to say I won that tourney. I earned no respect from the brawl community, as the only person who was on the PR list but didn't have a statute.

I was pariah, the outcast.

And I knew regret.

at pax east 2010 the newegg booth had a newegg expert playing CS:S against any challengers

the prize was a newegg beanie cap if you beat him in a first to 10 on an AIM map.

i watched a few people step up and get destroyed, and i figured i would give it a go

i pulled my cheap sony headphones out of my bag, plugged them into the newegg computer, and in a 19 round game beat him 10-9

    i should find that beanie

I regret not punching more people in the face in high school but i guess it worked out since I didn't end up in prison or whatever

However, the ring will never leave your finger, and you will be unable to ever describe to another living person what you see.

I regret that I did not ask the dude to just choose a stage, ANY STAGE, for us to play on.

Because custom M is the worst by far. BY FAR.

Also, it wasn't stock. It was score timer.

I have a host of petty regrets, a host of poor decisions leading to a disappointing present.

But I'm working to turn it around.

I was offered a job in Romania as a Project Lead, I didn't take it. I regret that choice.

I was given a chance to drop everything I owned, and leave everything I knew to go work in the Caribbean, I didn't do it. I regret that.

I regret giving up the piano as a child. I was good, really good, I had created compositions, won trophies, etc.

Then I quit. I was young, but looking back I regret it.

Right now i'm attempting to embrace my creative side: i'm starting to write again and play piano, and I might be getting a new electronic piano as a graduation gift!

    Wigging out in Thailand.

I was around 14 meters up in the air with no gear. If I fell I would have hit the water, so not terrifying. But intimidating enough.

Earlier that day I had climbed higher and longer and had a blast and bailed when my arms were flat out exhausted.

This one though, it had a lovely start, something between a lean back off a toufa that started in a chimney then it had a small ledge of sorts that lead out on a traverse. It was that traverse. The move wasn't that hard. Maybe 5.10c/5.11a but looking down, the fall just didn't feel comfortable. Heck when I wigged out and flat out jumped off the ledge it didn't feel comfortable, I had to mentally prepare myself for that.

Still think I could have done it.

I regret not going to college. I probably would have hated it and dropped anyway, but at least I would have gone.

I had a full-ride. I could have at least tried.

most of my serious business regrets revolve around massively multiplayer online games because i'm kind of a loser.

However I am okay with this.

Computer graphics is awesome. In mine, we built our own software rasterizers, learned about shader programs, etc. Never too late to learn!

The only regret I have right now is not getting surgery on my knee to fix my ACL tear when it originally happened. It's acting up a lot now and I'm quite worried.

Everything else... well, it all happened. I won't say it happened for a reason, but it happened. I don't need to change any of it for fear of what it might do to me. I like who I am.

    Nothing. Matters.
