Thanks for that eHaley post by the way. I'm saving the post. Quick question though: have you considered dropping a scattergunner and the stormsmith for Gorman? I've had great results using temporal acceleration on Gorman.
I imagine that'd work. It pushes against the limits of both my "20% support" rule and my "use focus on killing shit" rule, but if you're seeing double blind bombs work, go for it.
Double blind bombs work well - especially combined with eHaley's feat. The really nice thing about using Gorman with Temporal acceleration is that you don't have to choose only one bomb. I've often run into situations with Gorman where I want to be doing multiple things. Being able to blind and rust a jack helps kill or cripple it when you can't devote enough attacks otherwise. Being able to throw multiple acid bombs can do a number on a unit. It doubles his impact on the game when you decide to commit him.
I am gonna start a Legion of Everblight 35 point army so I can get to know the Hordes rules a bit better (I play against Hordes dudes a lot and often they go so fast that I do not know everything about how the fury mechanic works).
I am looking at the casters, and not a lot of the models are super inspiring. The interwebs tells me that Saeryn is the most competitive one but her model looks like a rank and file dude. I like pVayl, and it seems she is pretty competitive. What are some good models to purchase with her (battlebox most likely too).

pThags is a very solid and forgiving caster. Right now he's probably my favorite to play. Note: He plays very different from the rest of the faction as he's much more attrition than I'm gonna nom your face off.
But you, pig, are a lucky one. Tell us what we wish to know, and you may yet keep your bacon.

Yeah. It'll take about 2 weeks or so to get it to you (at least that's how long it took to get my replacement Deneghra card/piece), but you will get it. In fact I'm putting a ticket up about a missing Nyss Hunter arm right now *grumble*
So I've been painting some of my Houseguard Halbariers today. Mostly as painting practice, just working on brush control and such with the intent of eventually stripping them (also because the color scheme I chose was poor).
It just got me thinking: Why do Ret jack's have to look like a giant pile of shit? All the ret infantry looks pretty classy in my opinion, but the warjacks are god damn stupid.
I like them, but there is too much nothing going on in places. They could've expanded those swirly design thingies to cover much more of the shoulders, I think, pretty easily. And the official color scheme is bad.
It's a shame that the various noble houses of Ret aren't expanded on, it'd be sweet to able to run a Houseguard army with all the jacks showing heraldry on the blank parts.
I think, instead of just buying another army and letting my ret die on the vine (Read: Finish painting them to practice, then strip and sell). I'll finish painting them, strip them and redo their paint.
Everyone knows a bad paint job can really ruin a model.

This. Although I think the Vyre chassis jacks and Hyperion are a step in the right direction. That extra shoulder-pad and the shoulder-cannons really help break up the big blank panels.
That goddamn white paintjob, though. Bluh.
Something I hope we see in the next book are some Vyre lights, because the lights out right now are godawful. I mean, 'fer fucks sake, how is the Aspis supposed to compare to awesome models like the Minuteman?

I'm not sure that Cygnar lights would be the ones I'm running to for comparison :P
The Minuteman is awesome but him and the hunter far outclass the other lights we have available.

I dunno, I actually *like* most of the Cygnar lights. Especially the Sentinel.
At least the Cygnar lights have decent rules to back them up, though. The only light I've ran in Ret is the Griffon, and only with Vyros as a flank-machine.
EDIT: Also, I just realized that I need to buy four of the new Vyre kits. My poor wallet. <_<

Cygnar Lights, considered in a vacuum, are pretty good. If you look at them in a list though, they fall apart. The exceptions are the hunter, the minuteman, sometimes the firefly, and the lancer when you want an arc node.
Most Cygnar casters are very focus hungry. The charger wants three focus in order to function. Most of our casters are focus six. Many of them run upkeeps. Many of them want to cast additional support spells on any turn when the charger would be able to shoot important targets. This means that powering the charger creates a huge decrease in performance for the rest of your list. The charger can't make up for that with two shots.
The Sentenel is in an even worse situation - it has an unreliable number of attacks. Since it provides multiple low-pow attacks at a middling RAT, it ends up wanting to boost either to-hit or damage. Light infantry has too much defense to be easy to hit, heavy infantry has too much armor. The unreliable number of attacks means that it's impossible to assign focus to the sentinel efficiently. If it could benefit from gun mage rune shots, it would make a good marshaled jack, but it can't so you are unlikely to see it except as a paranoid contingency against Eiryss.
The grenadier can work in 50+ point games, but you need to bring trencher models and marshal it to gun mages. That's a big point commitment, and anything that the grenadier can kill well is also vulnerable to gun mages.
The firefly is good when paired with stormsmiths. It doesn't pull it's weight on its own.
The hunter is good because it deals with heavily armored models - a weakness in most Cygnar lists.
The minuteman provides multiple high pow ranged attacks, a damage effect that doesn't roll to hit, two handed throws, and high mobility. It also synergizes with our major jack casters.
Cygnar lights are either point-efficient or focus efficent, but rarely both. They compete against powerful units like the Black 13th, and Aiyana and Holt, as well as important solos like Gorman. They have low defense, ineffective armor, and their special rules are difficult to use effectively.
They can be powerful, but when you put them in a list, you had better be sure that they cover some otherwise terrible vulnerability, and that you have the focus to support your army while simultaneously running your light jacks. Most cygnar casters cant manage the latter, and solve the former in other ways. This is why most cygnar lists may include hunters or minutemen, but not other lights unless they're running a gimmick.
Certain lights can still make homes in some lists - sentinels can be useful with Kraye, Sloan, or in eNemo lists, but the fucking charger man. You can run him with Kraye, though there isn't much of a reason to. The only caster I know of with the focus to actually do stuff + give him focus is eNemo because he's basically upkeeps + energizer, and gets extra focus from stormblades and arlan (and sometimes Versh if you want to bring Gallant) to bring him up to effectively FOC 9 for running 'jacks. Which is depressing because the charger is like, my favorite looking light 'jack in the game.
I'm just sayin', I would totally take any of those lights off your hands and run them in Ret.
Hell, I'd take Triumph.
EDIT: The only reason why I even own some of the lights was because they had a limit of one Heavy Jack kit per customer at the PP booth the GenCon Ret was released, so I needed some more models to play in Iron Arena. oh god Mark I Ret so painful...

Yes we will.

We can assume that N3mo will be 'jack-oriented, if not 'jack-focused. Hopefully he'll be less like Nemo1/Nemo2 and more like... some other faction's caster. There are a lot of ways he could be awesome.
However, if N3mo and the Stormwall synergize with Stormsmiths I will beat Soles to death with his own femur. Stormsmiths can go fuck themselves.
Ugh, I cannot agree enough. I found a copy of Legends to look through the other day, found Nemo2 in there and promptly at how much awesome stuff they didn't let him keep in Mk2. And I'm kind of hoping we'll get some sort of Stormsmith type solo (or even unit) that has some choir or arcanist style 'jack buffs.

I should add that I don't dislike Stormsmiths as a concept -- I like pretty much all of their models -- but Stormsmith synergy is bullshit because POW10s are fucking POW10s. When PP forumers suggest that it would be awesome if the Stormwall's launched-solo-doohickeys were triangulation points I want to stab them.
So just bought the Cryx battlegroup. I've never really done anything with miniatures before. Put the defiler together which was pretty easy, just annoying cleaning up the mold lines. I have no idea how I am going to be able to paint these things. So tiny! Really fun though.
Well Cryx definitely has some tiny, difficult minis. They'll really try your patience when it comes to gluing. If you're looking for some painting tips, the War of Art thread around here started its own wiki recently that has some useful stuff.
Just an ancient PA person who doesn't leave the house much.
One thing I was wondering, especially after I glued my defiler together and to the base... is it better to paint/base before assembling and attaching the model to the base, or assemble/attach then paint? Or is this just a preference thing?
Partially it's preference, but if you paint before assembly you're gonna have to contend with some nasty ghosting effects on your paint jobs in places. Also, 99% of the time, if you can't see something once it's assembled then there's no point in painting it, so don't bother.
Personally I base, glue dude to base (depending on how I'm doing the basing this can get flipped around), then prime the whole model and then paint.

Thanks. I picked up a heavy warbeast kit, bolt thrower dude, and a ravogore because it was on sale for $25. Ravogore is missing the goddamn torso =/
