I can forgive Antimatter. She wasn't born when the movie came out.

    But you ... You're just a bad person. :P

But I can link to this again. http://twitpic.com/532209

Was that the one where George Carlin played Mr. Conductor?

Anyway, all you need to know is that a Midwest farmboy finds a jetpack and fights Nazis.

and it was directed by the same guy who did Captain America

It was Ringo! But actually my best memories are of George Carlin. No wonder my dad liked watching it with me, he was a big fan.

That and a Canadian Aboriginal actor as the generic Magical Indian. Whee.

I know about Carlin because on one of his specials he attacks children and says, "And this is Mr. Conductor speaking. I know what I'm talking about."

Jason Woliner was also apparently on that show with Ringo. And left with Ringo.

Jason Woliner is a pretty funny dude.

Thomas the Tank Engine is the reason Ringo is my favorite Beatle to this day.

But infancy is no excuse for not being familiar with The Rocketeer.

I am not familiar with the rocketeer

and I dunno why everyone loves him so. He just seems like a dude in period dress with a jetpack.

    But hey, Waid and Samnee

  • BlankZoeBlankZoe Registered User regular
It is a really fun, campy 40s-era superhero movie that had a lot of charm as do the comics it was based on

You could always watch The Rocketeer movie.

  • SolarSolar Registered User regular
Yeah but it seems like it is an old movie from the 40s

and I am not really a fan of movies from back then

it seems like people who love films like stuff from that time and I do not

    what

    no

I mean 40s as in it is a campy fun WWII era adventure ala Indiana Jones/Captain America

especially the latter since it is the same director

You don't get this from regular comic news sites: Cebulski in a rather frank dinner interview about all things comics. Some really good answers and responses that are better than what Brevoort or Wacker usually provide, and without the snark or unnecessary hostility.

One of the bigger things was about the double shipping:
    CEBULSKI
Steve is the editor. So Steve made the choice to go with Khoi Pham. And said he was going to work with Khoi to open up his style, make it a little looser. Tom Palmer’s going to ink it, make it a little more open. So in that regard, the couple pages I’ve seen, Khoi has adapted his style to something more like that.

    BUTCHER
To fit this kind of book.

    CEBULSKI
But, that said, Koi’s only going to be on for one issue.

    BUTCHER
    He’s doing 10.1 and 12 and 15.

    CEBULSKI
He’s solicited for that. Chris Samnee’s going to be coming on and taking over sooner. Him and Paolo will be the two regular artist’s on the book for the rest of the year.

    BUTCHER
So that’s a commercial decision that Marvel’s making, to print Daredevil 20 times a year because Daredevil’s one of their best-selling books.

    MINTZ
But another way you do that is you say, why don’t we have five Daredevil books. They can all come out monthly. What’s behind that choice?

    CEBULSKI
We found, and part of the reason for this increased shipping, is that, there’s a larger growing disparity between best-sellers and mid-sellers and low-sellers. There’s good sellers and medium sellers but the lower sellers are selling lower, lower and dropping. And those were always miniseries or one-offs or things that don’t count. And what we’re finding now is that fans want things that are part of the continuity. They only want the main titles. They want Amazing Spider-Man, they don’t want Avenging Spider-Man.

    AGG
    What’s the difference?

    CEBULSKI
There’s the core title, the actual title, and then the spin-off. So normally when a title hit big, to make more money off those characters, you publish a second title that’s not the main title but it’s a secondary run.

    MINTZ
That seems like a shell game almost.

    CEBULSKI
Yes. And in a way it is.

I think Marvel have self-inflicted that on themselves, by making ASM go to three times a month and shrinking the potential readership with Brand New Day's scheduling. When you direct the readers to only care about certain titles, you can't be surprised when they won't try anything that Marvel has shown, directly or indirectly, to not be as integral to the main story. This makes me wonder if there will be any noticeable jump in sales to Thunderbolts when it becomes Dark Avengers.

He's done a good job of adjusting / mimicking Rivera judging from the preview pages http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=11642

    "Ride or Die?" asked Goku

"Ride or Die" confirmed Dominic Toretto, as they took off to find the Dragon Balls in hopes of reviving their friend Sonic

I want him to do something more than Oz comics. Dude is awesome, maybe my favorite guy working today but I wish he'd do some more mainstream work.

If Runaways ever gets another go, I'd love to see him on it alongside a decent writer.
