Nope, we're still Kurzick. I can add you as an alliance member, though I'm not sure if it matters if you're in an alliance or not. Can you even reserve guild names for GW2?

You can, stated directly in the FAQ. Try adding me then, because as far as I can tell I'm spelling Kansas City Hotsteppers correctly.

I'm assuming you couldn't invite me, because KCHS is already in an alliance. I've added you to the alliance, you just have to accept.

If I'm going thru nightfall, do I wait till I'm 20 or just beat the campaign before heading to the eye of the north? Just picked this up for the gw2 rewards.

    Double post.

On the flip side, what does everyone need for the HoM?

I'm at 13 but on the cusp of some points.

Not too much effort to get it to 20 at this point and that would make me happy. Anything past 20 is pretty much just icing on the cake for me.

They definitely seem to come in bursts at first... I think I went from like 8 to 15 in just a few days. All those bonuses from 'Specific ___ + Any ___' add up. I'm pretty sure someone completely new to GW right now could still do 20pts fairly easily before GW2 comes out.

If you come into some money (like 10e+ [~80k+]) you can blow it for some added points with points from minis and weapons. The three super-prestige armors definitely aren't worth it if you're not going for 30+ though, nor are the PvP titles.

I'm one title away from the three extra points for a full title monument. I also am one pet and one hero away from a full monument on that side. I have a full mini pet monument and the easiest point to get there is one unique minipet which in all my birthday years I never ended up getting.

I am one armor piece away from the cheapest armor you can set in the armor monument. I already have Primeval which I've had since Nighfall proper. So I only would need one more elite armor set for another point there.

I am only missing the drake kabob to finish WiK and get the oppressor weapon. However I need to either redo it on my ranger or run my paragon all the way back to sardelac sanitarium to get the votive candles. A bit of an annoying thing.

I'm definitely not as rich nor as well connected as I used to be.

Some tips for your remaining titles:

    1. You've got a full minipet monument already, but just in case anyone else doesn't know, there's a cross-expansion quest you can do to get the unique Black Moa Chick mini.

    2. The Drake Kabob is pretty easy to get, just make a few runs into the drake-infested area in the Plains of Jarin and you'll get one soon enough (or just buy it in Kamadan).

    3. You can just ask a guildmate with access to Sardelac Sanitarium to get the Votive Candles for you. While in your case you only need one set of 6, for anyone who wants to get the Black Moa Chick mini they'll need at least one more Votive Candle for the Incubator Kit.

    4. Vabbian armor is expensive, but it's not actually that ridiculous to get if you do all the trade contract quests and find the hidden treasures in Nightfall. You'll usually get 6 or 7 rubies/sapphires that way. If you find any Ruby Mauls or other weapons that can give you rubies/sapphires on salvaging, do so (it's worth it to put a Measure for Measure inscription on it if it's got a slot). Plus, remember that the other costs for the armor are pretty cheap - 25k instead of 40/60 for crafting costs, and fewer common crafting materials needed.

I went to Sardelac Sanitarium on my ranger and Muune wasn't taking any requests for candles. I just assumed I had to have the WiK quest active and at the right spot to be able to get the candles. Was I correct in this assumption or did I miss something?

    Yes.

Edit: Never mind I figured it out. I was right I can only get the candles at the right point in the story. So either someone will have to do it for me or I'll have to either get my ranger to that point or run my paragon all the way back there. It's be easier to just get my ranger to that point I suppose.

Well, if any members of KCHS are online and have completed WiK we could do it, I believe.

It's up to you. You can always come back to NF later to do the rest of the missions. You of course have to go to Eye of the North for your HoM, so it might be worth it to go there initially at least. But then you'll have to figure out what your best path is for getting more points in the hom, one of which would be beating the Nightfall campaign.

If anyone is around tonight, we should do a GvG match for funs.

I've noticed that Eles are using Double Dragon in PUGs a lot nowadays. I might need to switch to a fire build and try it out. What does everyone think about going with Double Dragon/Conjure Flames and dagger spam as an ele, supported by a standard melee support hero team?

  • JaentherJaenther Registered User regular
You might need to do some fiddly targeting to get the most from double dragon with daggers, since if you're closest to a targeted enemy it will cast it only on yourself, losing the potential damage from the second ring on an ally. Other than that it sounds hilarious.

I'm having some trouble with my Dervish setup, I've got decent gear for my level, but it seems I can't group mobs for my AoE, they always run off to whatever I'm trying to escort or chase after my healer (who heals before anyone else does anything). After that I have a lot of trouble to catch up. I've tried to slot a speed buff, but it's such a dent to my DPS that I feel silly using it. I also have a skill that slows down running mobs, but that requires me to get into melee first.

The problem is that the few times I do manage to get 5+ mobs in range, they do so much damage that I end up getting killed instead. It feels like I either end up wasting time doing AoE on single mobs or I grab too much aggro to survive.

Am I missing some awesome skills? (I'm only lev15 in NF) Or is there some mechanic to group my heroes I missed?

  • DarkewolfeDarkewolfe Registered User regular
I think you've hit upon the reason that people don't play dervishes much anymore.

What is this I don't even.

Have you tried using Armor of Sanctity, or Faithful Intervention/Vital Boon? There's a few skills Dervish can use to help make them last in battle. If you have Factions, try pairing as an Assassin for Death's Charge, so you can be the first one to jump into the battle and be able to keep the aggro.

It also helps to have a monk who has protective spells to mitigate damage.

Dervish can be...painful at times. At times I feel like I'm destroying a horde, at others I'm a punching bag.

Simple things that can help would be to pull using a bow (longbow if possible, they have different ranges, doesn't have to be 'good' as you'll do crap damage with it regardless). Stick near your heroes and let the mobs come to you somewhat. Don't fret too much about chasing around the mobs when you have heroes, just go after whatever squishy enemy is the most problematic - usually any sort of monk or elementalist first. The heroes tend to run all over anyways so you'll be chasing them around if you try to 'pull' anything off them. Keep a protection monk hero or henchman with you.

If you're looking for builds (and hero builds) http://www.gwpvx.com/PvX_wiki is a great resource.
I use a variation of http://www.gwpvx.com/Build:D/W_PvE_VoS_Dervish on my Dervish and the 7 Hero Support setup http://www.gwpvx.com/Build:Team_-_7_Hero_Player_Support (though again not exactly, but similar)

You won't be able to fill out those completely at this time of course, but you can start to see how various builds fit together.

Some good (nigh-mandatory, really) hero support skills for a melee player:

    1. Strength of Honor (extra armor-ignoring damage)
    2. Splinter Weapon (massive AoE damage)
    3. Protective Spirit/Shelter (required to prevent enemy damage from outracing your healers)
    4. Aegis/Displacement (Aegis beats Displacement due to Displacement taking up Soul Twisting charges)
    5. Shield of Absorption (repeated hits on you dwindle to 0 damage)
    6. Enfeebling Blood (AoE weakness is amazing for mitigating damage, especially when you can ball enemies up and hold aggro)
    7. Weaken Armor (AoE cracked armor is great for increasing your damage)
    8. Barbs (makes a joke of bosses if you've got minions with you)
    9. Mark of Pain (MASSIVE AoE damage with a melee player)

Alternate skills if you want to play around with builds:

    1. Xinrae's Weapon (gives a Protective Spirit-like effect, does life steal to heal you and damage enemies, and is spammable)
    2. Reversal of Damage (shields some damage and reflects it back)
    3. Life Bond/Life Barrier (good for mitigating a ton of damage, but requires a bit of micro and is more complicated to build a hero around)
    4. Order of the Vampire (increases your damage, but requires a specialized Necro hero)

    looks kinda cool

i'm at the HM version of the quest were you take miku and blitz through tahnnakai temple, activating hidden switches to lock out ministry reinforcements as you go

it's pretty easy except for the elementalists who cause an instant party wipe!!!

i think it'd be pretty doable with two people though because then i wouldn't have to choose between flagging all my heroes to stand in AoE while i trigger a switch, and not flagging my heroes and having them run through a horde of level 28s while i trigger the switch

Ok, I'm remembering why I never finished GW in the first place, all the damn condition spamming. Can anyone suggest a way for my poor warrior to not get murderized just simply doing EotN content? I'm not even talking hard missions or anything, just a 7 pull faceraping me and my team of heroes/henches?

I'm currently axe-spec'd, with 5 heroes and 3 henches. I was using 2 healers, 1 other tank, and a bunch of ranged dps/support. Yet a group of standard mobs (no boss) just destroys me, especially when they spam blind so I'm useless. I own prophecies (completed) and nightfall (not really done much on it). The only axe elites I have are Cleave and Triple Chop (which I'm using). I have a decent set of armor + shield/weapon.

That will happen a lot, good rule of thumb is never use the entrance to an outpost during a quest. Always wait for the quest notification then use map fast travel, will save you from doing that sometimes.

I tried out AoD healers, and they're pretty good at party healing and unrivaled at keeping a minion army alive. However, there're some things you can do to keep the AI from screwing things up. First, don't let them be melee attackers unless you're willing to deal with extremely bad melee AI. I'm serious, it's better to just give them a spear or a staff. Second, because the melee AI is so bad, you don't want to use any flash enchantments that deal AoE damage upon start or end, because those will force the Dervish hero to run up to melee range (the last thing you want your healer to do) regardless of what weapon is equipped on them. Thus, the only really "safe" Dervish enchantments that you can use are ones like Harrier's Haste, Whirling Charge, Fleeting Stability, Meditation, Eremite's Zeal, etc., things that deal no startup or end damage but still trigger AoD's heal condition.

Conditions are...well, to be honest, I usually just fight my way through conditions, as they're almost never bad enough to hurt my team. It's the hexes that I worry about. Against condition spam, though, make sure you're using Mend Body and Soul on either your Ritualist Resto healers or your N/Rt healers. It is one of the best skills for take care of condition stacks, as it'll more often than not remove all of your conditions if you have an SoS or SoGM in your party, and moreover heal you for any damage incurred. Other good anti-condition skills are Smite Condition (removes a condition, heals for Divine Favor bonus, AND does AoE damage) and Mending Touch (removes two conditions regardless of attribute spread, and thus works as both a secondary Monk skill and as a one-off for any other caster).

I've been playing a warrior and got through EoTN recently. I would recommend getting the Asura Scan skill, it will allow you to hit through blinds, blocking stances and pretty much any other condition, hex or aura that would otherwise make you miss and kill your damage. It's one of the best PVE skills for warriors.

I also really recommend setting up the 7 hero support build that is on the gwpvx wiki. You will notice the difference straight away. Even with no equipment or runes on the heroes they output so much damage, and have so much utility and healing. I barely even notice conditions now since they get removed so quick.

7-hero support really let me down, and takes FOREVER to build. Discord-way has been much more useful to me in the short term, and coincides well with someone using Asura-scan.
