Why is Tribes: Ascend good and why should I give a shit?
(I'm actually interested. I just want to know what the appeal is.)
Because it is fast. I don't mean twitchy, I mean fast. It is one of the few fast FPS games made in years. It is a joy to play, it is challenging, it is deep. There is more to movement in tribes than there are to some entire games. The game rewards individual skill and teamwork, there are a variety of useful and diverse roles you can play. It's capture the flag, it's tense and dramatic.
1) Why would somebody put that on YouTube? "I'm going to embarrass my wife in front of the entire Internet! 15 minutes of fame is worth sleeping on the couch for 10 years!"
i was never into the Tribes series and I feel like Tribes Ascend is super-awesome if you are a fan of that series but for everyone else it's no thanks

You are wrong, in my experience. I have 5 friends who I play tribes ascend with, they all love the game and none of them had ever played a tribes game before. They are fps fans in general though.

Just as a heads up, it looks like TED has put a bunch of it's talks on Instant Watch.
Last seven days sucked. Had to put my cat down, unknowingly made a joke that made me feel like a total asshole due to information I lacked about a friend and had a temporary crown put on today.
Next seven days better kick ass to make up for it.
They'll have to change a ton of the personnel to better suit Manning though, specifically get a smarter center + better route runners both slot and wide + perhaps even a different running back

When you hold down spacebar in Tribes you basically turn off friction for your feet. You'll gain speed going downhill, but lose speed going up. Also you have a jetpack that lets you fly but has limited energy. Further you can rocket/grenade jump to trade life for speed. Trying to go as fast as possible from point A to point B is practically a game to itself, and all this is happening in the context of a class based, team versus team ctf fps.
