So I only caught the very first episode of this ... and it felt slow. Does it get better, or is it just a pacing I may never get used too? Like, how many episodes in before I should make a concrete decision to sally forth?
The first four episodes are hard to watch.
I think I watched the first episode with Vivienne, she didn't watch the second and I gave up after that, then six months later I gave it another go and then I got hooked.
Huh. I found Mad Men interesting and compelling from the start.

The first four episodes to me, was the actual pilot. It just felt they put down so much back story (and it pays off in future episodes) it was hard to really get into as the story wasn't going that far forward at the time.

Yeah I didn't find this to be the case when I was watching it. The pacing was a bit off and in all it was an awful lot of exposition with not a lot of promise as to where the plot was going to go.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I stuck with it because I love the show now, but I definitely struggled at the start.
The first season did spend a lot of time creating this entire little world and setting up all of these people's lives while kind of begging you to hold on for the payoff when it seemed to be taking extraordinarily long
Also, someone already posted the Carousel pitch scene from the finale of season 1 which is a powerful and superb scene. But damn, that closing scene when Don is coming home and he has his little dream and then comes home to the reality. Oof.

The season 1 finale is how I knew this show would own me forever.
Yeah, I've done that. There's nothing cool about getting stuck on an amazing woman and then finding out that all her friends are complete holes and losers that aren't even remotely as interesting, clever, or unique as she is, but there they are...reciting what they skimmed.

Friends, we are having a Mad Men party this weekend and I'm trying to figure out what the hell I should wear. I could just go with a plain suit which is my fall back, but I figured since they're in the early 60s now I could always try and have fun with it. I don't have any super loud blazers, so outside of finding something at goodwill here are my options:
olive suit, charcoal pinstripe suit, blue suit, grey houndstooth suit. Also have a blue blazer and a tweed blazer. Tons of vintage bow/ties... I also have a pair of yellow pants that are just dying to be worn. Also blue pants, khakis, white pants, etc.
I was thinking maybe the yellow pants/blue blazer with an appropriately colored bow tie.
My other idea was to go as "just got out of bed Don" bathrobe, white boxers etc.

I actually didn't enjoy the first two seasons much. I'm all about 3, 4, and now 5 though!
