Look how happy that dude is that the mohawk ogre is about to punch him in the face with a big spike. You can be that dude!
Found the old 1st ed WHFRP book (impulse EBay purchase) on my shelf a while back and thought it might be fun to try out the demo mini-adventure as a PbP here. Could be great, could be extremely unsuited to forum play, we won't know until we try! We should at least have fun with the vintage style, almost entirely random, career based (if you consider rat catching a career that is) character generation. You pick a race, roll a stat line, pick a general career area (if your random stats allow), and then roll up your random opening career.
The rules are fairly fast and loose and I hear combat can be pretty brutal for players so that sounds like it could be fun (for the GM at least). Essentially PCs are as squishy as NPCs, the only difference being PCs get a handful of 'fate points' representing their heroic destiny and allowing them a do-over when an unfortunate roll lets a street thug cut your leg off.
So looking for four players who can commit to a fairly regular (aim for daily posts on weekdays) posting schedule. Need to be open minded to an antique system and willing to RP to what the dice give you in chargen. Familiarity with the Warhammer world and its tone (grimdark+ tongue in cheek) is a big bonus.
I guess I leave this up until I get enough expressions of interest at which point I'll randomly (or cherry) pick a team and we'll get rolling.
Here's hoping I'll be rolling on the critical damage chart for your head soon!

You may be receiving some useful mail soon but in the meantime, let's kick things off with some character creation. All rolls to made on Orokos so we can check there's no cheating.
1) First choose your race from the options of Man, Wood Elf, Dwarf or Halfling.
2) Roll stats as below. The arcane letters stand for: Move, Weapon Skill, Ballistic Skill, Strength, Toughness, Wounds, Initiative, Attacks, Dexterity, Leadership, Intelligence, Cool, Willpower and Fellowship.
3) Roll age for reasons that appear later.
4) Roll Fate Points. These are essentially a get out of jail free card and can be used to escape an otherwise certain death. For reasons unclear the different races are unequal in their fates.
Elf: D3-1 points (minimum 1)
Dwarf: D3 points
Halfling: D4 points
5) Pick a career class. These are the general flavour of the character and come in four varieties. More detailed career comes later and is randomly rolled within these classes.
Warrior (Must have WS 30+)
Ranger (Must have BS 30+)
Rogue (Must have I 30+, if an Elf must have I 65+)
Academic (Must have Int and WP of 30+)
If you don't meet the requirements for any class the rules don't say what to do. I suspect you give up and start again as you have clearly created a lemon.
6) Skillz. Roll a D4 and modify by the below to get your number of starting skills.
For any race other than human your first two skills are set. The rest are random by a combination of race and class. Roll a d100 for each random skill and I'll give you your final mismatched set.
7) Finally the fun bit. Career. You're all rat catchers.
This will provide you with some gear and additional skills.
8) 3D6 for starting cashmoneys.
Once you've rolled all these dice I should be able to get back to you with a character sheet. Good luck!
Ah fuck it, the scenario says it's designed for four but I'm sure five will be fine. Balance wasn't exactly a thing in those days anyway.
Get rolling!

I'll deal with specifics of what it all means later, but your starting skills are Mining, Metallurgy and Excellent Vision.
Your starting career:
Drum roll...
Have fun coming up with a character for that one! Roll the 50% chance skills and pick one free stat advance from the options in the advance scheme. You'll clearly also need to pick the (believed) source of your divination powers and how you manifest them.
If so:
Seer random skill rolls: Blather; Charm Animal; Public Speaking: 1d100 21 1d100 77 1d100 55
So I get Charm Animal and Public Speaking, yes?
If Public Speaking is a Fellowship based skill, I think I'll take the +10 Fel advance if not, I'll think of something else.
Do we automatically get all the other skills and trappings listed too?
Source of Power: the Ancestor Goddess Valaya, of course, manifested through rune-carved raven bones.

Despite the stat requirement and D&D connotations of the name, Ranger just means a rural character rather than being tied to any kind of ranged attacking style. That said you will get one free stat boost you can probably put into BS depending on your career if you see yourself that way. Dex is unrelated to ranged combat in this system and is used for skill checks on 'complex, intricate or delicate manual tasks'.
So Warrior or Ranger, your decision!
Yup, you get all the listed skills and trappings. Plus as an academic you also get a suit of lightweight clothes including sandals or soft shoes and a knife tucked in your belt.
Public speaking is indeed fellowship based.
Starting skills of Excellent Vision, Sing and Dance. (Snigger)
Career:
Though as an elf you can only envy that beard. Again roll your random chance skill and pick one free advance. Advances are always +1 or +10 by the way. That +2 wounds means you have the potential to advance in it twice.
Ranger extra starting gubbins:
Basic character stuffs yo:
Kazrik Ironbrow, scion of the famous Ironbrow Clan, is unusual amongst Dwarf-kind in that he is more concerned with future troubles than past glories. Even more unusually, he actually spent time outside and kept birds as pets, seeming destined for a career in the Rangers until one day he dreamed of his favoured pet raven being struck down by a lightning bolt from an empty sky. Seeking to avoid this fate for his beloved bird, Kazrik returned to a more subterranean lifestyle, much to the relief of his parents, where he started making inquiries about runesmithing as a career. Until, that is, the Skaven attacked; the first warning being the death of that same raven to a warpstone sniper shot from a tunnel thought blind and empty of threat.
After the invasion force was driven off, Kazrik found the corpse of his pet with the warpstone bullet still embedded in it and became obsessive about the future, dreams, and divination; after this was met with disdain and even outright hostility at home, he struck out on his own towards the lands of Men to seek what knowledge they might have of portents and omens...

Something about volunteering to die for the shame he brought on his clan has given the dwarf an open mindedness rare to his kind. That's not to say he doesn't uphold the dwarven ideals of boastfulness, carousing and the berating of elves. Most who've met him describe him as a 'whirling orange ball o' chaos- and when he's in battle too!'.
