Fist of Legend honestly has some of my favorite martial arts fights ever. Not to mention a final fight with an antagonist who I can only describe as a Japanese Ivan Drago.

Flying guillotine (the weapon) inhabited a space in my kid brain that might've been inhabited by Jason Voorhees in other kids. In the movie I saw way back then, every time it came out, someone died.
BFL the whole point of FLCL is that the protagonist is punished for being mopey and unrealistic in his worldview and the cliche MPDG turns out to be psychotic and tries to murder him
besides that it is a pretty well written story about a kid fixated on being an adult while all the adults around him act like children

Trigun is, eh. There are certainly worse anime out there. But for all the good things it has, the music, the setting, the weaponery, it has a ton of awful shit.
