Oh, that's the cover to Avenging Spider-Man #9. Here's a penciled page, also by Dodson. McKelvie noted that he got her hair perfect.
I have to say, they are making it very hard for me to continue being indifferent to Spider-Man when that book has a murderer's row of artists coming up that includes Samnee, Dodson, and Immonen.
I also do have to admit that one of the few things I liked about the latter half of Reed's Ms. Marvel series was his burning desire to write Spider-Man in the comics (aside from writing for the Spider-Man video games) resulted in a pretty cute pairing of the two.
Carol's buttoned-up to her chin on that cover, and yet I think it's sexier than all the titty women out there in bikinis or "armor" that covers nothing but shins and forearms.
I also read AvX1 and was also surprised that very little happened. The little preview that's been running for months was pretty much the meat of the issue. I'm starting to realize that most comics events have really lame first issues where nothing happens.
Anyone taking bets as to who the prerequisite Event sacrifice will be? Because you know its not an Event until someone dies...
I doubt we'll get much in terms of death. I think we're more likely to have someone like Jean comeback. Maybe some sort of pseudo death but I doubt a real death.
Also, issue one of AvX gave me a strong feeling that all of the tie-ins are going to be worthless. They'll literally just be "this guy fights this guy - cool", which I suppose is fine...but I was hoping for something more substantial.
Protector has the best odds. I just refuse to believe it.

Protector's not going to die, he's just going to get remanded to the New Avengers after Carol leaves and the Avengers proper get the obligatory post-event shuffle.

That means he's on the X-Men's side, so good for him.

now I'm imagining some kree dude in a giant priest's frock with starched collar making the sign of the cross
You mean like the Church of Hala folks?
I want to see many more adventures in space, especially involving Protector and/or Captain Marvel. Adding Nova and Quasar would make it that much better. Pretty much my Captain Marvel story idea from a couple years ago.

It seems like Secret Avengers has a story to tell in the tie-ins, New Avengers sorta does too, but Avengers doesn't, as though it's almost reacting to Secret Avengers' story. It gives off a Secret Invasion vibe.

So there is that too
Diablo 3 - ArtfulDodger#1572
Minecraft - ArtfulDodger42
I mean, Cap and Thor died already.
Iron Phoenix punches Ultron to death
he is given this power by Hope, who sacrifices herself in a touching scene of selflessness and bravery
afterwards, nobody cares

It's funny that you say that.
I read this as "Hope touches herself" and it still made the same amount of sense in the incomprehensibility of Marvel summer events
somewhat tangentially related
it was hilarious when Namor turned Hope down in UXM
and then proceeded to make out with an alien fish queen
which made her getting turned down even more hilarious
Namor was a boss in that issue
The Mike Tyson reference feels much more like a Millar-ism than I expect from Aaron.
Tony...sorta died...when his brain was erased or whatever.
I mean, not really a death death but they already used their best trick for bringing him back from the dead with that.
and I am going to wonder whether Marvel is trying to make me sad on purpose
Protector. Protect-her, see? That's the ticket.
He should be on the New Avengers anyway
I reserve the right here and now to be both angry and upset at it
this includes writing posts that demean the parentage of everyone who works at Marvel
as well as the right to wildly hurl insults at anyone who laughs at my uncontrollable sobbing
now I'm imagining some kree dude in a giant priest's frock with starched collar making the sign of the cross
That would be the best of things.

Marvel knows it is just an excuse to have their two biggest teams beat the tar out of each other, and is having fun with it
