I have a few art projects I juggle in my free time. One of them is completing at least one black and white sketch per day. My end goal is to publish a sketchbook by the end of the year. These images are created en masse to to allow many springboards for excellence, so with enough drawing I'm sure I'll find enough diamonds in the rough.
For the record, license to crit anything I post (art or otherwise) is welcome. c:

Excellent work on the face! The shadows and skull structure are believable enough to make me think you did a clay mockup for a reference. This guy's got real personality to him.
Dangit, that's a really cool design for an orc, not just your typical generic orc design. Really cool.
Thank you! I'd like to work for D&D, or someone else fantasy, but I'm afraid of creating average work of familiar subject matters. Your comment is deeply appreciated.
I have no idea what this is. Robot something, I guess:

No, that's excellent, don't even tell me what it is! It's got a real dreamlike quality. It could be fantasy, it could be science fiction, it could be just an unusual way to looking at an entirely normal, everyday scene. I love it. I think the heavy distortions of the negative space around the shoulders do something really interesting, they almost seem to cloak the shoulders of the figure, creating some kind of liminal presence to the piece. I wouldn't do a single thing to it. Save it how it is.
Ooo, I like that! A real neat approach to portrait painting!
You should watch out using that brush too much however. I get that it offers a neat/trippy effect, but man, those first pieces could use a bit more solid shape polish so they don't look so unrefined.

Strangely enough, that has little to do with the brush shape. The best way to construct an image (if painting) is to block out your shapes as large as possible, and save details for last. I use the same brush to add detail, if I choose. I agree: they aren't very detailed.
Here's something started with the program Alchemy. Good for quick concepts:
Before I jump into Burne Hogarth's figure book, I sketched a figure from memory. Please don't use this as a reference—it's more to note where I'm lacking. I have an immature grasp of overlapping, foreshortening, and curved structures that I'm trying to address:
That's cool, I did the same thing before figure class this year, it's interesting after getting some xp to go back and look. You have a great understanding already. It will be much improved. Anatomy in hogarth isn't that great for reference, but you can't beat the sense of the figure in space and motion. I can't wait to have time to go through it myself. Will be watching the updates.
dude your work.....i cant stop staring. I would love to bother you for a crit sometime, on style or technique. subscribed to blog. mmmm color
Yeah, I'm always up for crits, giving and receiving! That invitation is extended to anyone. Normally during my streams people are shooting advice to each other in the chat, so it becomes a pretty great place to hang out.
Might also try every relevant gaming magazine.
Btw, all the stuff in here... just top notch. multiple thumbs up.
Yes, with a quick verbal "boom." You take a man's peko, you deny him his dab, all that is left is to rise up and tear down the walls of Jericho with a ".....not!" -TexiKen
It really blows my mind, not just WHAT you did, or HOW you did it, but what is exploding my mind right now is WHY you do it, what part of your mind tells you to use that kind of strokes, why... WHY!!!!!!
And that woman, that is a very powerfull image, like it was said above, colour, light, and sense of warmth... its just a great piece. I hope you make more stuff like that, with really interesting characters like this woman, and the cityscape behind... Im not a fanboy, but I have to say I really REALLY dig this thread.

Awesome! I was actually planning on doing some attempts at this but from the john carter trailer after life drawing tonight. Now I have to try it!
Really good warm ups!
