Well, since no one seems to be putting forth any times or places for Saturday, I am going to propose (arbitrarily and without any real authority to do so) that we meet at 11 AM on Saturday in the lobby. I don't think there's anything big going on then, is there?

will be going as the 10th Doctor on Sat. with my daughter as a Disney princess(not sure which one yet).

Wait, you were going to bring a life-sized TARDIS with you to PAX?! Props to the effort ... and there might be some time-space issues because I'll be there as 10 on Saturday too ... *crosses fingers that the universe doesn't explode*

It wasn't suppose to be life size, it just kind of ended up that way... It was only going to be to fit around my daughters stroller. The logistics behind getting it up there and then what do with it while I'm on the show floor proved to be a little to much this year. I'll finish it after PAX and bring it next year maybe.

Also 11 works for me ether day.

I am having a bit of an issue with my costume. I was going to be Tira on Saturday, but my ringblade did not survive the trip up here. Does anyone have an idea for a quick fix, or (im)possibly a spare ringblade hanging around somewhere? I am staying at the Hilton at the moment.

Here's to hoping I don't have to go with a craptastic cardboard model.

We're going to be dealing with some massive time-space issues -- I'm going to be there as 11.

Question for you guys and gals...

I'm actually a professional photographer, and I really enjoy getting pictures of folks in their insanely cool costumes. However, I always wind up grinding my teeth over missing some folks. (for example, I kept missing our local NH Ghostbusters today. :-)

I figure... and maybe this is crazy... that since I do this professionally that folks might like to connect with me so I can get their picture for them. Win/win. I can email everyone high res pictures of themselves after the show. (obviously free, in case that wasn't clear!)

I had sorta hoped this year that I would be able to pull of something like a "station" where folks could find me consistently, but frankly I just didn't have enough time to plan this year... so I was thinking of doing it next year, and basically starting to plan now.

To give you an idea of how charged up I am about this... I usually only go for one day, but if I can get a sense of interest I'll pretty much grab a 3 day pass next year and be sure I'm there each day so I can meet up with folks. Would love to meet you all!

But what would work for folks? I mean, obviously I want to wander around and check out all the cool stuff as much as everyone, so I probably won't stay stationary the entire time, but perhaps I could pick a spot where I would return each hour on the hour or something. I'd stay there as long as I had folks interested in having their picture taken.

I'd also like to try to get folks away from some of the less than ideal distracting backgrounds and such, which is a little harder to do right in the thick of things, so having a pre-arranged spot to meet up would probably work really well.

I could probably setup a twitter feed for it as well so I can keep folks posted on what I'm about.

We could also do things like... if 800 of you are showing up as one thing or one "family" of characters, we could plan ahead and get you all together at once? Stuff like that.

    I dunno... any thoughts?

BTW, you can see some of the pictures here:
    http://forums.penny-arcade.com/discussion/158564/east-pax-east-photos-from-saturday#Item_1

I'm posting more as I get them prepped, but I wasn't there as long as I had hoped to be today, so I'm almost through posting them. :)

Anyway, please let me know your thoughts? Thanks all!

p.s. Some freakin' awesome costumes today. Holy cow!

Everyone I saw looked great - what's more, contraband weapon props were at a record low! ;)

Thanks to all of you; PAX will never be a cosplay-centered con like many of the anime cons, but the PAX cosplayers add that delicious seasoning to the gaming-focused PAX experience. Thank you!

Sounds like it. Considering how every year there's more and more of us as we inspire and encourage other people to do it, I'm sure eventually cosplay will be a huge thing for PAX.

I mean that PAX is a gaming-centered con, whereas other cons are much more about the cosplay element itself as a central attractor. It's not a challenge, because it doesn't matter how many people turn up in awesome costumes if the show organizers want to keep true to PAX's original vision and fill the content slots with stuff like freeplay and game design panels. Now, if you like, you can lobby for the content slots to be full of stuff like masquerades and costume contests instead, but I wouldn't hold your breath. ;) There are already tons of cons out there that offer that stuff. PAX, as we all know, is just that little bit different.

I'm fine with it being a not-really-cosplay-con. Because that means the people who do cosplay there do it big. Driven by passion for their source material rather than cosplaying for cosplaying's sake. I can't think of a single bad costume from pax east this year. They were sparse, but they were all super high quality.

YES, THIS. I truly believe that the fact PAX isn't really about cosplay, as such, is why the cosplay that is at PAX is so high quality. People don't cosplay at PAX because of a masquerade, or because everyone else does it. They do it because they really, really want to.
