Diablo II was 90% illusion of freedom, you had a shitton of suboptimal stuff that would trick you.
Though vanilla D2 was great to be an omnisorc.
A billion hydras, meteors, and frozen orbs to make your machine stutter.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

actually blizzsorc is the most boring build Hope This Helps
I enjoyed summon necros a great deal. Other than a time when Blood Golem and Iron Maiden worked in most delicious ways, I don't believe anyone ever saw my machine guttering army of skeletons, mages, revives and a golem as anything to be feared, but it'd get me into hell. Err, where I'd probably struggle more than I had to, but leading an army of the damned as they cut exp and loot from the denizens of hell was something I found fun.
But I'm glad a 'messed up build' no longer leads to 'delete, rinse, repeat, oh god won't someone let me into a cows game so I can leech 30 levels!' (I never played heavily during the 'ubers' period).
Forar on
First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER!
If you use a staff of teleport in your alt weapon slot, summon necros are quite viable all the way through hell too. They're relatively easy to find on staff vendors.

I'm not saying that the new system is going to be a bad thing
Just that I can see where the kid was coming from
His reaction to the new system though is pretty dumb though
I'm still going to play the shit out of d3, I just hope it's going to be as fun as d2 was
I kinda hate elemental druids
never been able to maintain interest in one long enough to get armageddon or hurricane to respectable levels of damage.
That's only because you would get into a game with a Wind druid and as you watched them destroy everything you thought to yourself "Why am I doing this build again?"
We're pleased to announce the Diablo III open beta weekend, which offers open access to all players with a valid Battle.net account! Beginning this Friday everyone is invited to log in and help us put the game and servers through their paces in this three day stress test as we march toward the games release on May 15. You can begin downloading the Diablo III client right now.
From Friday, April 20 at 12:01 p.m. PDT (noon), until Monday, April 23 at 10:00 a.m. PDT you'll be able to log in, team up with friends, and play each of the five heroic classes to level 13 as you fight to save the world from the impending demonic invasion.
FAQ
What steps do I need to take?
Log in or create a Battle.net account at http://www.battle.net
Create your BattleTag™, which is required to play Diablo III (What is BattleTag?)
Download the game client, install, and play between 12:01 p.m. PDT April 20 and 10:00 a.m. PDT April 23
I don't have a Battle.net account - can I still play?
Absolutely! Just visit http://www.battle.net to create a free Battle.net account. Next, download the client from https://us.battle.ne...nload/index.xml and install it. Create your BattleTag, and then log in to the game using your Battle.net account name (email address) and password to begin slaughtering the demonic hellspawn that dare stand in your way.
Are there any differences for stress test participants versus invited closed beta testers?
Stress test participants will only be able to access the beta between Friday, April 20 at 12:01 p.m. PDT (noon), and Monday, April 23 at 10:00 a.m. PDT. In addition, stress test participants will not have access to post in the beta forums and will not be provided Beta Bucks for use in testing the currency-based auction house.
Can all regions/countries participate?
Due to regional differences and features of the stress test client, Korean players will not be able to partake in the stress test weekend. However, beginning the week of April 23, we will be conducting a separate, invitation-only closed beta test that will give players in Korea a chance to try out the game, along with players in the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.
What if the service is down/laggy/disconnecting me?
It's very possible that players connecting to the stress test could experience issues with the service. While not ideal this is exactly why we're having a stress test. We want to catch and analyze as many bugs as possible during this stress test period, so that we can try to ensure a smooth launch on May 15.
I'm having an issue, how can I get help?
Due to the limited window of the stress test we encourage you to visit the Technical Support or Mac Technical Support forums if you're having any issues running the game, and checking the Known Issues list if you're running into a bug. As a stress test participant you will not be able to post in the beta forums.
What platforms and languages do you support?
For the stress test we're offering the client in English, French, and German for both Windows and Mac. At release the game will be fully localized into English, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, European Spanish, Italian, Polish, Korean, and Traditional Chinese for Windows, and English, French and German for Mac.
I'm an invited closed beta tester, what happens after the stress test weekend ends?
As an invited closed beta tester you'll continue to have access until the beta ends on May 1.
@Walt you should probably change the thread title for the open beta
OP updated, title updated
got rid of all the misinformation because the official site has all that stuff now and it's way nicer to read, also updated class links to the game guide pages
I will be doing this thing, at least untill I get sick of the lag and go back to Tribes. Here is hoping that blizzard is going to try and handle the demand. I know too little to know if deliberately not putting all of your servers online so as to see failures is actually productive at all.

tips for those of you new to the beta
- Turn on Elective Mode in the Gameplay options. This lets you personalize your equipped skills more.
- Turn on Advanced tooltips for your skills under Gameplay options.
- Rings only drop from the skeletons before you fight the beta-boss. There's a vendor in the second area of New Tristram that has a tab for rings.
- There are no amulets in the beta
- Crafting is good but make sure you pay attention to the level requirements of the item. You are able to craft gear in the beta that you can never equip due to the level cap.
- No Beta Bucks

Oh OK. I'm not in the beta, so I'm a bit behind on the changes.
you are right 100%
they were the real heroes you were just the sidekick
never been able to maintain interest in one long enough to get armageddon or hurricane to respectable levels of damage.

argh why isn't this game out yet why can't i plaayy ittt
No, no real counterpart to the druid. Nothing like a shifter druid. WD would kind of cover the nature/summon trees, but a different flavor.
I know nearly nothing about the D3 classes, I want to keep as much a surprise as possible (despite wanting into the beta, i'm weird like that I guess)
Wizard.
