"It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day."
"Goodyear?"
"No, the worst."
That is such a good movie.
"I'd known her for years. We used to go to all the police functions together. Ah, how I loved her, but she had her music. I think she had her music. She'd hang out with the Chicago Male Chorus and Symphony. I don't recall her playing an instrument or being able to carry a tune. Yet she was on the road 300 days of the year. In fact, I bought her a harp for Christmas. She asked me what it was. "

So, the other month Bart Ehrman released a book called Did Jesus Exist wherein he takes Acharya S to task for claiming there is a bronze statue hidden in the Vatican entitled "The Savior of the World". The statue depicts a rooster, with a human penis for a head.
Everyone assumed Ehrman is right, but Acharya S keeps producing source after source discussing it. Looks like it really does exist.

I've seen the movie so many times and I'm almost in tears laughing at this right now
It took me a long time to appreciate the Naked Gun movies.
Also Bullitt Rye is way, way better than its price indicates. Everyone who knows about it thinks so, why haven't they caught on?

has anyone seen The Virgin suicides? watched it in class today. I thought it was excellent, it was maybe the most I've ever gotten out of class discussion too, made me realize how much was really going on in the movie (through what other people said and my own thoughts)

I think I remember being tempted to watch it on netflix, but haven't gotten around to it. Might check it out.
her butt is pleasingly rendered i guess but it's also kind of weird-looking
she is poorly written and executed though as a character
But then, who do you choose?
Ashley is religious and space racist
Liara is all over the place and a weirdo. She's nice I suppose, but she's fairly lacking in personality.
Jack is ANGRY and has no hair (or dat ass, or bosom).
Tali. Don't even talk to me about that. The worst!
I don't know if there's someone new in 3.

the first time I saw it was with my dad when I was a kid and on the drive home he had to pull over a couple of times because we were laughing so hard.

I saw it. I found it darkly humorous at time, and at others rather depressing. Apparently it was the done thing amongst the mopey girls of my peers to watch it at parties and cut themselves.
I would like to know more about what was going on. It has been a while though.
Usually not. I'm sure there's a poet that crossed the boundary though somewhere.
I'm trying to decide if Gilgamesh, Sophocles, euripides, Aristophanes, and Ovid go on my philosophy bookshelf or not. I'm tempted to put Aristophanes on there, but if I include him I have to include the others...and I'm afraid that if I include these guys i'm obligated to include Dante.

Ashley
There was very little about Liara or Tali that appealed to me and Jack vs Miranda, not even a question.

that's frightening
I shouldn't have said it that way, it's not like there's a secret plot or something. it's just a lot of the inter family stuff developed as we talked about it, the behavior of the parents and stuff.
like the father clearly having decided at some point while his 5 girls were growing up that he just had no idea what to do so he was going to do nothing

the only reason not to pick tali is that she has legions of creepy nerd fans
thing is, she is the best written female character, and also the best voice-acted. plus she is an interesting character who has a bunch of great scenes if you romance her that tie in with the greater storyline really directly.
i think the romance with Tali that I saw in ME2 and ME3 is the best video game relationship I've seen, and there were even a few moments that made me go "awww!" and exchange cutesy faces with my girlfriend
the weak point was definitely shepard of course, in those scenes
i also found that romance scenes in general are kind of creepy in video games, and the more immersive the game the creepier they are - like the game is trying to make me attracted to this fake person, not as a sexual image-object but as a person
and also that when shepard starts hitting on the ladies it really dissociates me, as a player, from the character - i'm no longer shepard, i'm just watching shepard and inputting decisions

you know I said that memory was awesome but I wanted to say it was beautiful and stopped myself
but it is! that's a beautiful memory!
haha aw
thank you! and yeah it is a very fond one for me. I don't think I'd ever laughed that hard in my life, and I don't think I had ever seen that side of my dad before either.
the hardest i've ever seen my father laugh was one sunday morning when I was maybe ten or eleven
we were all having breakfast and my dad was reading the paper at the counter, chuckling at the dave barry column
and then he starts laughing really hard, and tries to read this one section
and he gets to a sentence, something about "singing songs about roofing," and he just starts cackling uncontrollably (we both have high-pitched laughs), double over in his blue robe, taking off his glasses and wiping his eyes, laughing so hard that he starts drooling a bit and finally has to drink some water to recover
he was a carpenter and contractor so i think the subject matter struck him just so
it is a very endearing memory

Apparently it is a statue of the god Priapus - http://freethoughtnation.com/images/stories/sotercosmou.jpg ...maybe not safe for work.
Acharya S thinks it is directly connected to the Apostle Peter, the scholarly consensus is sceptical.

Mr. and Mrs. Brother in law
More like Mr. and Mrs. PATRIARCHY!
I actually suppressed my sexuality quite a lot when I was around him during puberty because I didn't want him to make jokes about it.

we used to pass his column around the kitchen table
when you watch deepthroat gag porn and tape a cut-out picture of her face to the monitor where the porn starlet's head is
Hmmm. Haven't done that yet. Yay, I'm not a creep yet.
