He lost me at that bizarre analogy of Avengers being a dog show or something?

    So Ebert has reviewed this

He seemed to like it, but his review is... rather empty. It's like the guy wrote it about the trailers, saw the film in order to determine his star-rating, and then couldn't be bothered to go back and edit some actual specific commentary into the thing. And to boot there's a slightly condescending undertone of vague contempt for comicbook fans and their explosiony movies, which just strikes me as cringingly backward from a learned bespectacled film buff

I was kind of hoping for something more akin to his Iron Man review, but c'est la vie

Everything I hear about Roger Ebert makes me like him less and less

Which is a shame since he usually doesn't resort to such cheap shots for the sake of a review.

Well he sounds pretty terrible to me

but then, my opinion on the entire subject is quite negative in the first place

    so yeah, unsurprising I guess

ebert saddens me because he's obviously such a clever dude but then his arguments are always so specious

and his reviews are always that devoid of content. he never sees fit to explain what's good and bad about a film, rather he just makes snide remarks about arbitrary details. it's maddening.

I have never really liked Ebert.

I trust @The Lovely Bastard more than Ebert and I know for a fact that he unironically enjoys the later Killer Tomatoes films.

    Nor old man Logan

    Nor 1985

Basically the good Millar stuff I've read is Morrison's so I have a hard time believing Millar can actually write

Kick-Ass was an extreme take on mindless action in a nihilstic kind of way.

Typically I don't care for that kind of thing, but Nic Cage really sold me.

basically I like MIllar as long as he's working with the premise of "heroism is good" as opposed to "fuck you"

and that is definitely the premise of Superior it is basically that one all-star-superman page you should read it

I feel as he has gotten older Ebert has just behold a grumpy old man.

And will prejudge a movie before he watches it.

I can't remember the last time I read one of his reviews that wasn't linked from here because of "outrage".
