Diablo 3 is the newest game from Blizzard Entertainment, who you might have heard of! It totally sucks, because the leveling system is not exactly the same as Diablo 2, and the graphics totally aren't grimdark enough!     have some sense of how enemies scale by difficulty
    Skeleton King
    Normal: Lv.8, 1800HP
    Nightmare: Lv.33, 123,250HP
    Hell: Lv.52, 2,471,100HP
    Inferno: Lv.61, 15,717,300HP

    There's also a section with a couple of normal monsters. Here's a sample stats of one:

    Armaddon (appears in act IV)
    Normal: lv.29, 1200-1700hp damage per hit: 443
    Nightmare: lv.49, 12k-17k hp damage per hit: 3445
    Hell: lv.60, 54k-76k HP damage per hit: 14k
    Inferno: lv.63, 306-428k HP damage per hit: 170k

    So you can do hardcore after level 10. It appears that this will still be the case in the release.

    I can't decide whether to play through normal on regular first, so I can see the game without worry, or leap straight into hardcore.

    is there any benefit to hardcore beside the difficulty?

    like i totally understand wanting to jump right into the hardest difficulty

    i always choose the hardest difficulty for any game i play, but that's more just because i'm good at videogames and like cheevos

    hardcore is not more difficult in terms of the damage monsters deal or how strong they are, it just that when you die in hardcore your character is dead forever and you have to start over

    Could never play the original Diablos when they were around. Played a bit of 2 but it was way too late to really get into it.

    Hardcore is interesting in that while your character dies, you only lose what you have equipped and what you have on your person. The items and gold in your stash remain, and your artisans remain fully leveled. You can continue to progress in terms of wealth though your characters may die, if you play well enough.

    I think it will be less fun than Softcore *at first* because Inferno is likely to be incredibly hard, such that only having one life could hamper you from exploring the game's depth.

    I guess that makes sense, since the stash and the artisans are essentially account-wide.

    I assume they're still segregating Hardcore and Softcore games? Would that mean you have a hardcore stash and a softcore stash, to preserve the Hardcore economy? Or do they not mind using Softcore items to twink your hardcores?
