We've got an apartment too. For a small to middlin' dog it can work out, provided you can spare 20-30 minutes a day to walk them around the complex. I understand not everyone's life conforms to that, but if yours does and you've got $100-200 for the initial outlay, there are many, many dogs in shelters who would love to be your friend. After that there's obviously a monthly outlay for food and care, and that'll depend on the individual dog, but it's more possible than a lot of people think.
This also assumes you don't get a working breed dog or mix, or that if you do you're willing to give them a job (e.g. memorize all your toys and bring them to me at 10 minute intervals on command, for instance) and walk them longer.
It's a big day for him, meeting his new family and all. A lot of excitement for a little guy. He's going to grow up to be a happy dog with a great life because of you.
And Munkus, personally for a smaller dog with hair I suggest a Cavoodle. My girlfriend has one and he is goddamn adorable and wonderful, very friendly and lovely dogs.
