generation kill is pretty great just for the scenes when they're driving, bored, and talking
humanizes the shit out of an already pretty human cast
Gen Kill is a fantastic series
I read the book and thought it was plenty interesting, then later watched the miniseries and it sort of 'clicked' in my head how profoundly fucked up it all was.

Technically, they're foreign and there are only like three non-foreigners on the forum. But for the sake of argument, I can check out one of our foreign alternatives to Hulu and see if its on there.
While the story it tells is not accurate, the depictions of day-to-day Roman life are
Plus it's just really great drama

Is that the HBO show?
I think I saw some of that. It was fun to watch with commentary on, just pointing out the little details they put on the show to keep it accurate. Like, having person A wear this garb on this day because of this tradition or this habit. And the clay here is made from this material because of poor people. And urine was valuable because of that, and bathhouses were this.
It was like watching a History Channel special with a retarded budget.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

Yup!
And it looks gorgeous (in a dirty, accurate Roman way), the budget was well spent.

For a semi-psychopathic, gladius wielding meathead, Titus Pullo is a damn lovable character.
Just, y'know, sometimes he murders people. Sometimes for almost good reasons. Usually not, though.
Oh hey try and find Underbelly if you can. A really great Australian crime mini series based on real life events. It's really good! Don't bother with the next two as they're generally pretty shit
Actually more Aussie crime stuff you should watch if you haven't done so already is Two Hands, Getting Square and Chopper. All awesome movies well worth your time
Let's talk about Lucy Lawless getting naked in Spartacus.
sounds like I need to watch Spartacus
Not only does she get nekkid, but has some full-on lesbian action in Gods of the Arena (second season/prequel).
By Juipter's cock, is it a great show. Not high-brow or historically accurate in the least, but damn entertaining and the plotting has gotten significantly better as it has gone on.

Band of Brothers is legit. The Pacific is depressing as shit(with every right to bs, but I remember it being advertised as BoB in the Pacific..)
The Pacific was hard to watch at points, to say the very least. I'm very much glad I did, but there's some real sucker punches in that show.
Same for Band of Brothers at points (especially the second-last episode), but yeah, they're two different worlds. The airborne vet at the end of The Pacific comparing his experience to that of one of the marines was pretty telling on its own.
It's a sad state of affairs when the shows on HBO have more historically accurate facts in them than the shows on the fucking History Channel...
Sorta want to engrave this on a brick and throw it through the largest window in History Channel's headquarters building, because goddamn.
On the other hand, it's nice to know that there's someone out there willing to do and show some real work in putting stuff like HBO's historical lineup together. Especially on the more contemporary stuff they show some real respect for the people/events.
Because if you're going to attempt to squeeze that big black monster into your slot you will need to be able to take at least 12 inches or else you're going to have a bad time...
Rome is excellent. Never saw all of Generation Kill but a few eps, read the book and it was very good. Deadwood is fucking awesome.

Anybody catch the Hatfields & McCoy miniseries on History? I heard it was good but missed it.
Band of Brothers is incredible. Haven't watched The Pacific yet, the discs are sitting their in their case calling to me, but I will be watching that an episode at a time with the missus, same as I have been with BoB.

I expected it to be rough to watch. Everybody makes a big deal about Normandy D-Day. The Marines went through so many goddamn D-Day's with higher fucking casualty rates it's ridiculous.
Also, if you ever get a chance to read Ghost Soldiers (don't remember who wrote it, but the book/event The Great Raid was based on, phone posting), it made me cry. Cabantuan/Philippines was awful.
@chrishallett83 it's certainly not a feel good series. And I think they portrayed how shitty the pacific theater was pretty well.

Deadwood had some amazing uses of the English language.
Tolliver: “And while you traveled with her, her husband the Sheriff was pickling his prick in the cunt-brine of another.”
Tom Nuttall: My bicycle masters boardwalk and quagmire with aplomb. Those that doubt me... suck cock by choice.

There is a lot of "dudes being strewn very much about" to it, yeah, but I was actually thinking on a mental/emotional level for a lot of scenes in it. The violence is very, very much there, but it tries pretty hard to get across what's going on in some of the characters' heads, and how they're dealing with (or not dealing with) what they're experiencing.
One of the episodes was more or less themed around combat stress; I really liked that they gave it as much of a spotlight as they did. Band of Brothers spent time on it as well, but it was usually more of the B-plot in that sense, so to speak.

Nah, I just meant the short lived but fantastic show.
It's got historical gravitas. In that it's a biblical story set in a modern age.
It counts in my book
I read the book and thought it was plenty interesting, then later watched the miniseries and it sort of 'clicked' in my head how profoundly fucked up it all was.
The entire series is up on Hulu. For free.
I don't doubt you haven't heard of it. The ad campaign for it was ass and shit.
It's got whatshisface from Deadwood. You know. Gravitas.
It's great.

I have both seasons on DVD.

He's great in Kings
The rest of Kings can't keep pace

I love The Borgias. I'm still making my way through the first season but it's such a great show.

Season one of Rome is so good. The second episode is still some of my favourite TV ever.
Yeah, I know. S'okay, she can handle it.

Rome now, I suppose!
Basically I'm saying that I'd like to tell every client that calls me that they're a cocksucker.
