It wasn't unexpected, and damn if he didn't die well, bravely, and doing the right thing

If you are going to kill a character, you could do a lot worse

I think we might see the EVA that first turned up in Morrison's future X-Men story soon, you know, silver lady with the big head

Don't get me wrong, I loved this month's issue, and I love the way the death was handled. It's just that he was my favorite is all. And now I am sad.

Can't wait for them to kill the fuck out of Daken and the rest, Wolverine's little bastard has been running around long enough doing this type of crap.

If you can't beat them, arrange to have them beaten in your presence.

    Uh....
EVA showed up in this very issue! She's the silver lady with the big head.

I have a hard time believing that Remender offed that character permanently - he's laid too much groundwork in previous stories to let him go now. This isn't a Geoff Johns / Damage situation.

    I hope you're right.
Uncanny X-Force was the first X-Book I started reading after taking a nine+ year hiatus from reading superhero books. As such, Jean-Phillipe was a totally new character to me, and it took me all of one or two issues of UXF to think of him as my favorite character in the book. He's also possibly the most interesting character in UXF currently, which isn't a small feat considering I like almost every character that's been a part of the team so far.

Planetoid #2; Silas, an AWOL military grunt-turned-space pirate, has found himself on a remote planet, surrounded by an electromagnetic field that kills spaceships. Home to a former mining station run by androids, the robotic overseers have turned homicidal, forcing the various shipwrecked humanoids into the shadows, scavenging to survive.

With most of his equipment either destroyed in the crash, or his battle with a robotic snake, all he has left is a stolen pistol, of alien origin.
Throughout the first and second issues, Silas has been menaced by small, annoying lizards. They ate his tent, almost made him fall to his death, and now one's standing between him, and a nest of tasty lizard eggs. He overreacts.

    NlHn2.jpg

Later, he's been captured by another pair of unfortunate castaways, Onica and Ebo. They intend to escort him to a nearby humanoid tribe, in an attempt to barter him away. Unfortunately, as they arrive, they spy a robot ambush, that looks to turn into a massacre.

I have to say, I'm really enjoying this book. Like most sci-fi I really enjoy, there's a tinge of fantasy and spaghetti western to the whole thing. There's grit and grime, underdog anti-heroes, and ruthless villains, and it all hits just the right spots for me.

The art's not overly stylized, but Garing does interesting stuff with the panels and shots, that makes it feel a bit unconventional, and exciting. The dialogue flows naturally, and each issue's done a nice job of giving the reader a satisfying little chunk of story.

The annoying lizards also remind me of Usagi Yojimbo, and the lizard critters that inhabit that world. I'm not sure if it's a deliberate homage, but I like it either way.

I guess I gotta jump back into X-Force. Dropped it shortly after the Archangel arc finished.

Also love Kaine's disregard for a secret identity.
