Hi!
Few days ago one of the Polish publishers (Timof) has decided to publish comics and strips from Bears of War blog in a little, humble book, which will have a premiere in October, problably during the annual International Comic' s Festival in Lodz city. I' m glad, because I have started this project just for fun. Below - BoW' s stuff from yesterday. Enjoy!

Drawings of bears armed with guns killing other bears. Wow, I'm just paralyzed with laughter. Hey look he killed Winnie the Pooh. For the 50th time.

    I am dying.

That newspaper article has nothing to do with the headline. I hope someone got fired over that mistake.

I love the first picture. The boob squirting milk on the bear in the background (a sentence I never thought I'd have to type) is hilarious. I don't get the joke in the second one, but the artwork is still great.

His name is Eeyore, buddy, get it right. Donkey's the one from Shrek. Anyway, I guess I just don't get the punchline.

How about this for a Mario comic? A goomba jumps on Mario's head, takes his clothes and then goes and has sex with Peach under the guise of a plumber.

i love the art, i just wish it was being directed somewhere more creative and individual, the whole gears of war thing is pretty ephemeral. it was alright in the first strip, but think of a year ahead..it will just seem outdated. if you established your own characters and ideas you'd be able to knock out a really brilliant strip that would last a long time. I remember seeing the first one and thinking "wow, cool style... i look forward to seeing what this guy does next" but unforunately it's just always the same bear shooting random pop culture characters. If you've found a niche for it and it's working for you fine... it just seems a waste of a really decent talent.

also... it frustrates me because my brain insists on pronouncing it "beers of war"

No, I don' t. My graphic novels, published in Poland are well known, because they are good written. You know - the BoW project was made only for fun. It was not about good stories, just fast drawing, primitive jokes, blood etc. But it will change after next monday' s update. Fibretip is right, this scheme worked only for a short time. Now, I will take Bears on a next level...

I know, that you are young, Garret, that you like to photograph flowers and you think, that you are god and everone else sucks, like an elephant sucks the ant, blah, blah, blah....but I' m a little bit older than you and I can say, that this shitty state of mind will pass, like a winter or a flue, or whatever you want, Garret, Gofatso, whatever.

Guys can we just assume there's a culture gap with the writing and just drop it already, or focus on the drawings like you're supposed to?

    Seriously.

They may not be the pinnacle of comedy, but Herring's already said that they were just intended to be silly visceral one-offs. The earlier ones he posted a while back were pretty neat, and the art is still great.

I definitely enjoy the style. I also echo Eliotto's question: I've never played Gears before, so do the flying breasts have any significance, or is it just silliness?

Anyway, keep posting your stuff Herring. You've got an awesome style, and it's definitely rare to see a person who can pull off that kind of a "quick and messy" look and make it work. I dig seeing characters like Mario pop up as well, since it's such a departure from his "accepted" visual.

And Gafoto posting in a non-photography thread? Strange.
