Monitor turns off shortly after powering on

My fiancee noticed a few days ago that the monitor was showing black spots a few days ago. Now its powering on but it kind of displaying some weird lines and does some weird patches of scattered dots of various colors then goes black but is still powered on. Could this be a problem with the DVI cable? or the whole monitor, due to the random nature of it I'm thinking(praying) its not my video card.

    Do you have another computer to try it out on? Maybe one with a VGA port?
