Trial By Fighter, also known as Divine Calling (神'呼び出す)in Japan, is a 3D fighting game and the first title created by developer ASC (Ark System Crash). Published and localized by Nautilus Games, it was released in 2010 for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and saw a limited run in Japanese arcades.
Though receiving mostly positive review scores, critics unanimously agreed that the small number of characters and limited online functionality were major detractors to the game. Trial By Fighter saw poor sales on its initial release but has become a small cult classic for fighting game fans due to its solid mechanics and unique characters.
Story
Trial By Fighter takes place in the fantasy landscape of Fortuna, where magic and spirituality are key elements surrounding the political landscape. The benevolent god of the land, Anu, sees that Fortuna has been slowly drifting into spiritual corruption as crime and disbelief spreads amongst the people. Anu sends a message to those that remain faithful, calling for them to travel to the Great Mountain where he resides. Feeling that he himself can no longer guide the people, he calls upon his followers to prove their faith and defeat each other in combat. The individual with unbreakable faith will travel to the mountain summit, where they will challenge the avatar of Anu. If that challenger can defeat him, Anu will grant his power to this person, so that they may help him in sheparding the world towards peace.
Characters
Adrian
A teeange monk belonging to a small sector of holy men who have disavowed all forms of magic. Pledging alliance to Anu, they believe that magic should only be used as a tool by the gods. Instead, they live in an ancient temple dedicated to him, training to reach physical and spiritual perfection to appease Anu.
Though each monk heard Anu's divine calling, Adrian alone was selected to go on the journey despite being the weakest in both strength and faith. Though the decision was heavily contested by the elite monks, the elder adamantly decreed him as their chosen one, stating that this journey would strengthen him into the perfect disciple. Reluctantly, Adrian leaves the temple and begins his quest.
Quick but weak, Adrian is the fastest character in the game and the only one capable of parrying an opponent's attack. By inputting the parry command at the moment of the attack, Adrian will block the attack with his forearm, negating all damage or stun and allowing him to follow up with a counterattack. The timing for which the parry will work is extremely precise, however, so Adrian is recommended for more advanced players. Despite the parrying ability, his weak normals and general floatiness places him in the low-tier list at number eight.
In the original Japanese version, Adrian was named Gahndi, in reference to Mahatma Gandhi. Feeling that players would be offended by the name, he was renamed Adrian by the American localization team, a reference to a popular TV detective.

I wasn't joking last page. I have a really hard time understanding accents at all, and speaking out the onomatopoeia isn't helping
Panel #1: Are you getting smart/cheeky? What are you all about?
Panel #2: I'm all about Glasgow: Glaschu (gaelic) meaning "The dear green place".
Does that offend your Protestant/Rangers Supporting sensibilities? And if so what the hefty heaving fucking are you and your Falstaff Young Team going to do about it.
Panel #3: Aw what? Don't fucking tell me you're all fucking scared of this old nugget!
Panel #4: Well I'm not!
Panel #5: Do you use that to have sex with your mother?
I'm pretty sure that's mostly right.
Danke.

Funny story.
I picked up Jigglypuff in Melee purely as a joke. I was trying to find a bad character to mess around with the people who were bad at the game at my dorm my freshman year.
Cut to, six years later, and new players developing new technology with Jiggs have made her the 2nd or 3rd best character.
Question about the fictional tier list for the game: is it supposed to be based on tourney results or is it based on theoretical matchups?
