If no one has mentioned it yet here there is also the very inexpensive ($20 - $29 a night) Green Tortoise, if you are down with staying at a hostel. It is located right next to the pike place market, which is just blocks away from where PAX will be.
The reason I mention it is because I just read an article in the Seattle PI that says that since the other downtown Seattle hostel closed recently the Green Tortoise is getting packed, so if you want to stay there you should probably check about reserving space now.

All good, hostels are not as common or as used here in the states as they are in Europe. A Hostel is basicly a cheap hotel where you sleep in a room with other people (usually 4 to 8) and use a bathroom down the hall. The rooms usually have bunk beds and you may or may not know the people in the room with you. It is a great way to meet new people, but if you would rather share a private room with some one you know that can also be had at a hostel for a little more money (like mid $40's instead of mid $20's). Either way hostels are usually the cheapest places to stay.
