    TLDR; I'm a huge fanboy, I've gained 29 levels today, just ignore me but yeah dungeons are borked

    oh yeah also, I've read the GW2 books, does anyone else feel like it's really hard to give a single shit about Destiny's Edge without Snaff? Why the fuck would anyone care about this shit without the backstory?

    I honestly care more about Faolain than anyone in Destiny's Edge.
    Snaff pretty much did all of the work in Edge of Destiny and the author didn't do a good enough job depicting Eir as a tactical genius since half her plans failed.

    I assume Devona did everything she could to erase Cynn's name from history after beating her upside the head multiple times with a blunt object and then dumping her in an unmarked grave.

    Funny story. Hopped on my warrior alt, started leveling him up, trying out different weapon combos. Wound up unwittingly running into an area that was 4 levels higher than me.

    No problem, I think to myself, I do this on my mesmer all the time! I'll just use my superior dodging skills and counter abilities.

    So I run up to the first guy and hit hundred blades. Wait, why is my health going down SHIT I DON'T HAVE ANY COUNTERS DODGE DODGE WHIRLWIND FUUUUUUU-dead.

    I'm just using the rifle for now. :(

    Endure pain, frenzy, hundred blades -> switch to dual axes and #5 then adrenaline attack

    also I was so mad when I found out about Logan's bullshit in the backstory, I hate his stupid guts now. It's like goddamn, we could have avoided ALL of this if you had taken your mind off boners for ONE GODDAMN SECOND

    My understanding is that he traded killing one dragon with keeping alive the ruler single handedly steering the charr human treaty, without which there is no hope of beating the other elder dragons.

    I think killing Krakaltorik and letting Jennah die would have been winning the battle and losing the war.

    Not really related, but I still thought it was cool and you mentioning graves brought it back to mind. I found a Deldrimor dwarf grave, and next to that a grave for the stone summit person who killed him. Passerby's were encouraged to spit on the stone summit tomb if they were friends of deldrimor, which I happily did. It said something about some magic happening but nothing else happened. I may have had the wrong kind of saliva.

    She single-handedly deceives the dragon minions into leaving. The author doesn't really make a convincing case that Logan needed to be there.

    Well, the wiki seems to disagree with the book. It says
    The Ogre Revolt was the onslaught on Ebonhawke created by newly created branded ogres and hyenas shortly after Kralkatorrik awoke and flew south. At this time, a celebration was being held in honor of Queen Jennah for the fixing of Ebonhawke's asura gate and the promise of refuge and support by Kryta. The branded slaughtered an encampment of charr laying siege to the city fortress before breaking through their walls with ease and began to slaughter the Ebon Vanguard and Seraph inside. Logan Thackeray showed up to defend Jennah and in turn recruited the aid of charr prisoners within the dungeons to fight alongside the humans. Even with this aid, however, the branded were still winning with ease until Jennah created an illusion of Kralkatorrik transforming the humans. At the end of the battle, Jennah ordered the charr to be set free due to the new threat.

    There were 133 Seraph slain during the event, including Logan Thackeray's brother Dylan. The conflict was indirectly responsible for the dissolving of Destiny's Edge, as Logan deserted his friends to save Queen Jennah

    That's obviously a major battle requiring all hands on deck. Also it makes it seem as though Logan was equally pivotal in freeing the Charr, which was a key step to ending the human/charr war. The bits of lore I've found around ebonhawke seem to support the wiki version that the whole thing was a very big deal. So I dunno. Maybe it was retconned.

    I haven't read the book, but in game, Logan's actions seem to be the wisest course - even if not, they are certainly defensible.

    You'd have to argue that the time bought by the Logan and Charr crew was sufficient enough that otherwise the oversized Orges could've stormed the human sized keep 5 stories up into a locked armory defended by the Queen's Guard while she casted her spell. The author didn't really include a sense of urgency in his writing. All details from the book.

    Any positive outcome that may have followed from Logan abandoning his friends in the midst of battle to follow his blue guardian balls doesn't absolve him from being a shitheel. Abandoning his friends in the midst of battle because his cocktease told him to makes him a shitheel. If Logan had known that abandoning his friends in the midst of battle may help forge a truce between charr and man, maybe then his actions would be defensible. But he didn't know that when he abandoned his friends in the midst of battle.

    She didn't even need his help. That might've been the result of bad writing though.

    People need to understand, the universe of Guild Wars 1 was amazing. The story was a cliche storm of near-crap. GW1 had no awesome final boss until Nightfall, and no character development to speak of at all until Nightfall and Eye of the North. There's a reason Prince Rurik gets mocked mercilessly, he was an annoying Leeroy Jenkins who's return is practically a joke. Prophecies was an utter mess with at least 8 enemy factions running around and no clear threat. Faction's voice acting was so laughable it made Deus Ex' foreign accents seem like high art.

    But somehow, for me, it worked. The art design, the music, the design of your own hero and how you save the world I grew attached to after a while. Even those retarded henchmen and heroes, I wanted to lead them and keep them alive to serve my heroic heroism... thing. :p

    What saved the story for me was basically being the god modding hero going around fixing everyone else crap because they were too dumb to fix things themselves. There's a reason I like the vanity titles I've earned. The little pop culture references and nod and winks to the fact that, yes, without you this whole house of cards falls down was enough for me.

    So I'm willing to be forgiving for GW2's story, because pretty much anything would be an improvement over Prophecies and Factions. Nightfall and Eye of the North were much more focused in their story and character arcs and it really, really shows.

    It's a trick of perspective. Yes, the Ascalon Five are the 'main characters' of the first few story arcs through Nightfall. But it's like in Hidden Fortress, they're not the main focus of events, your character is. The Ascalon Five are remembered by history, but that doesn't mean your character has no part in the story.

    GW2 sounds like it fixes a lot, and also falls short in some places. That's fine, I'm optimistic about the story though I haven't played it myself. However, for me the Searing did it's job pretty well. You get attached to this beautiful kingdom, and the Charr storm in and burn everything to ash. You spend dozens of quests helping war victims, old tired soldiers, orphans. You protect your people during their exodus. You start helping another foreign land just to safeguard a tiny little village that you don't even SEE as a viewable outpost. So later on when Pyre Fierceshot starts his mouthing off I really do want Gwen to shoot him in his jerk face, because I know first hand what Charr do to their enemies. It's little things like that that hook you.

    For what it's worth, I mostly agree. I still think this is the best game I've played for years.
    As far as ArenaNet has said, they think they're fine and the complaints are just the same as when they released DoA. Which isn't even an argument, but hey! So when, if ever, would they be addressed?

    On the whole, innovative vs iterative thing; yes, most of Guild Wars 2 is very good iteration. I think the combo system might be somewhat innovative though? I haven't played any other co-op games where you could combine moves in quite that way for special effects.

    ...and of course, as always, Kill Hitler.

    Yeah for all the reasons just stated, it's not even up for debate. Logan made the wrong choice, period. He was completely unnecessary and Queen Jenna solved the problem almost single handedly.
